This pretty much sums it up for most people. This is the giant hurdle that the environmentalists face.

I care and I believe human activity increases warming during natural cyclical events. However I think the cyclical events have more impact and there is zero we can do about that. Should we prudently reduce our carbon footprint where we can? Sure..Simply because we like clean air to breathe. Ive said for years the environmentalists should just concentrate on clean air instead of global warming. None of us have a problem with cleaner air.

Mars has an atmosphere 100 times thinner than Earth's.

Isnt that cute.

Earth - CO2 = .04%
Mars - CO2 = 95%

See an issue there, climate boy? Whats the temperature of mars again?

Also, you didnt seem to care about atmospheric "thickness" when you mentioned Venus. How much more thick is Venus' atmosphere than the earth's?

it's thicker than any porn star... 03-wink

The Coast is a lot cleaner now than when I was a child. Every time we would have to go into Pascagoula (County Seat) there would be a smog when going over the Pascagoula bridge and the smell was hideous. Never knew how people could stand living over there. All of that is gone. On summer days in Ocean Springs with a stiff East wind you could smell it also at the house. Only time there is a smell over that way now is when the Pogey boats come in and "cook" their haul.

My point bringing up Venus was that the runaway greenhouse effect turned Venus into an inhabitable hellhole.

Climate explained: why Mars is cold despite an atmosphere of mostly carbon dioxide

Quote:Let's have a look at our solid planets. Mercury is the closest planet to the Sun, but it has a very thin atmosphere and is not the warmest planet. Venus is very, very hot. Its atmosphere is rich in carbon dioxide (over 96%) and it is very dense.

The atmosphere of Mars is also rich in carbon dioxide (above 96%), but it is extremely thin (1% of Earth's atmosphere), very dry and located further away from the Sun. This combination makes the planet an incredibly cold place.

So, CO2 IS NOT the cause of warming.

We finally got you there.

CO2 is not the SOLE cause of warming. Temperature on any planet is determined by the atmospheric content, the density of the atmosphere, the water content, and the distance from the sun.

Correct.

What you are basically saying is that something (CO2) that is a very minimal amount of our atmosphere is increasing, much of the increase is due to factors other than man, and we need to freak the f*ck out over it. Also, we dont need to talk to the Chinese or other true offenders of CO2 emissions. We need the american tax payer to pony up.

There was an article the other day on USA Today I think...that was about glacier melt from hundreds of decades ago increased sea levels etc...

You cant have it both ways, ignore eons ago happenings when its convenient.

I also question the ability to truly judge if "this _____ is the hottest on record" as our ability to capture data today is so much different than our ability to capture data over the last 141 years. There are too many differences to conclude a truly scientific result.

Its been 13 degrees for three straight days up here on the 45th parallel. I could go for some global warming.

It was 18F here. I thought about going outside and projectile farting methane and then burning my garbage to put some ash in the atmosphere.

Lake we are on is about 11 miles long, 1.5 miles wide and is about 200 feet deep with a river running into it and out of it.

I may walk across to see the guys in the fishing huts this afternoon to tell them last month was the hottest January in 141 years.
