College revenue sports have never been as stupid as they are right now—as riddled with hypocrisy and inconsistency, as rife with fiscal irresponsibility, as drunk on revenue, as lacking in strong leadership. Men’s basketball is a diminished product that elite players view as a necessary evil, while administrators remain in denial about the underground economy that ran the sport for decades. Ford nails it! He also could have added how Dantonio screwed over Cincinnati when he left for MSU. Took ALL his assistants with him leaving the football offices bare with only a few weeks before a bowl game (against WMU).

I think preparation is overrated in football beyond a certain point, perhaps detrimental to the point of sleep-deprived coaches making obviously boneheaded choices. That said, Kelly was intimately familiar with our team and players, so he didn't have to spend as much time game-planning for us.

Kelly beat Cubit and WMU twice that year with similar talent. There's a reason he's at ND (at least for now) and Cubit is not. That is not a knock on Cubit as a person, however. He's a good man.

I post over at the MSU board, mostly for the hometown talk and not because I'm a MSU fan, and these douchbags felt totally entitled to Fickell and filled their diapers like babies when he spurned their advances. I think MSU tried to be cheap with Fickell considering how he was their #1 choice and had all the leverage. And when he told them no, they had to overspend on the Colorado coach or else everyone would have been pissing on them.
