Rivalry heats up
Heard ASU AD, Terry Mahajir, give an interview on 95.3 in Jonesboro. He made a number of accusations about our administration and staff. First, he said we did not give their team access to the Jack for practice as required by league rules (there was a wrestling match at the Jack on Friday evening). He stated if the arena is not available the home team has to go somewhere else to practice as well. Blamed the ESPN+ fiasco on LR telling ESPN the game started at noon. Claimed that some of our fans came into the press room and harassed Coach Balado. Finally, he stated our coach (didn't specify if it was our head coach) made some crass/innappropriate comments on the "line" while shaking hands after the game. So, while I have no opinion about the veracity of his complaints, I am confident we'll get a "nice" welcome in Jonesboro. Don't ya'll love having a rival?

RE: Rivalry heats up
Miscommunication issues with ESPN and of the wrestling event were probably true. The line quote and fans accusation has yet to be proven but keep in mind that this is a rivalry game. There’s going to be some bad blood occasionally.

However ASU’s ad said these issues didn’t affect the outcome of the game but he wished there was more “class.” He also notified George Lee of these issues and is “going to take care of it.”

The two head coaches glared at each other the entire game. I specifically watched after the game to see how the two acted in "the line" and did not see them speak. They barely shook hands. I heard they did the same before the game. The asu AD is a hot head.

And all our players and most of theirs are supposed to return next season. The Jack ought to be packed next time around.

Rivalries mean a lot less if they don't mean much to the players, which is one reason one-and-doners don't help the atmosphere. They do not have any investment in the school - only themselves. Most of our guys will be there multiple years.

So they traveled down the day of the game. What are they a high school team?

Trying to save money on hotels. I know in the past we have done the same thing. Dont know about this year. But I suspect we will travel friday and practice at a high school there. It is what most schools do.

Here is a link to asu AD on the radio. His LR comments are early so no need to listen to the entire broadcast. Coaches and players say things in the heat of battle. asu coach is not innocent.

Hopefully both teams are in the upper tier of the standings when it occurs next year. That is a game I will make a priority to attend.

They should all be back. But it looks like balado has lost the team. They have lost 6 straight and they are not favored to win any of their last three games.

If they have anything left, tomorrow is the day they will show it. If they lose to us at home, they may not win another one. I thought they looked good at the Jack. They had road wins over Tulsa and Colorado State earlier in the year. Not sure what has happened to them, but their fans aren't happy.

They did play well at the jack. They shot better percentage than us on fgs and 3fgs. We won it at the line. We were 30-35 and they were 18-24.

We can probably absorb 1 more loss. But not this one. Never. Especially after what asu AD said on the radio after we beat them.

RE: Rivalry heats up
Obviously we never want to lose to ASU. But, losing this game would put first place at great risk. GaSt plays at TxSt so one of them will win Saturday. If we lose, that would put the winner only one game back. If we go into Atlanta, only one game up, a loss to Georgia State would give the title to them or Texas State (if they win their last game).

And Texas State has to play at UTA and at USA. Georgia State also has to play Ga. Southern. Can we bring it home with 4-13 ulm and 6-10 Lafayette coming here next week.

If we beat ASU, winning those two clinches first place. A loss to ASU and we would need help or have to beat GaSt on their home court.

RE: Rivalry heats up
So far we have played 8 SBC road games and we have won 5. We have lost only 1 SBC home game.
asu is 4-5 at home in SBC. Interestingly 1 of those 4 wins is against Ga. State.
