He's a really good OL coach. I would be nervous to have him as anything else. For UD, I suppose he's a good pickup.

Stiney is a good coach and an excellent recruiter. This is a great addition for Rocco and the UD staff.

Yep, addresses a big weakness for them. If they find a way to fix their defense, look out.

Interesting ... looks like the Giants didn't see his genius and promote him to DC after all. Surely there is another scrub FBS team looking for a new HC. A shame Oduh didn't snap him up.

No need to return the favor. Be better than that. They all know how serious the charge is & no one on their board is excusing it as acceptable behavior if true. Honestly, that’s better than we can say about this message board...

I honestly think this might impact our future coaching search. There are some camps that really want Stiney as the head football coach and were sickened that Cignetti was picked over him. If he helps boost UD recruiting enough to have them contending again for the CAA and NC's, it might be enough to get a HC gig here in the future. I'm a fan of getting those proven HC's personally, but I can see this playing out that way.

Cignetti took us to the title game in year 1 and his stock has sunk to a point we would hire a guy we've rejected twice already with no head coaching experience??
Utterly ridiculous. Thank god those people aren't the ones that are actually making these decisions.
For Stinespring to get a chance head coaching at JMU, he needs to be a head coach somewhere. Assistant HC isn't going to cut it. Criticize JMU admin for their MBB selections, but they have been spot on when it comes to hiring HC's (EW wa. We are way past the point where we would take a flyer on a guy with zero head coaching experience.
If Stinespring is so fantastic why hasn't he gotten that HC opportunity somewhere??

Stiney is great at OL, and the blue chickens have a big need there. He is far from proven as a coordinator though (VT fans hated him as OC), and HC would be a huge stretch. Agree he needs to earn his wings elsewhere. Hiring him as HC would be another LR moment likely.

That is the understatement of the year. Living in VT country talking about football, their fans still go out of their way to talk about how awful he was as OC. And to be honest, he really was not good. For those that thought MM was conservative, Stinespring's offense would have driven you nuts.
Totally agree with everything you said. Hiring alums (or anyone for that matter) with no success as a head coach is a bad idea regardless of what sport they coach. If there's anything we should have learned by now is that there's a huge difference between being an assistant coach and a head coach. Get some experience and success as a HC and then you deserve to at least be in the discussion.

Yep - that will not benefit us.

exactly.....Stiney kills it in the 757. However it may be a wash. ODU lose this connections and UD picks up his connections in the 757.

Well... that and a QB and a coach who can win big games. Let's not get ahead of ourselves though. Other than that little point, they're unstoppable.

Any news on when the spring game might be (or spring practice schedule)? They announced around the end of Feb. last year and usually the game is around the middle of April, although sometimes it has been earlier or later.

I got an email... maybe last weekend... Spring Game April 18, along with every other event in Harrisonburg.
