It is simple IMO. The system is way too complex for college kids, especially college kids accustomed to AAU ball. How many layups and wide open threes did we give up because we were confused on whether we were switching or not? How often does our offense look like guys just standing around and eventually a basic ball screen with a half hearted roll to the basket. We just have no identity and are majorly confused on how to run the system.

Everything in your post is about coaching.

Truthfully. I see a lot of effort from our players. I see a lot of your and a ton of sloppiness with turnovers but I see tremendous effort more often than not.

So, yes, I do believe most of our issues are coaching. The staff is as confused as our players on the court. Again, they have no identity. But it is clear that our players can not consistently run the system in place. It is built for NBA players and we have two or maybe three of those on our roster. So we have a system that is not designed for the vast majority of the team and it shows. Penny has to design a hybrid between his NBA system and more traditional college systems.

good coaches adapt to their players' skill sets

even cal

He definitely changed his approach mid season one year and he became a better coach for it.

Geez, we need some dogs.

Down 9 late and we tie it up. The sure sign of quitters. This place has a dozen psychos, literally the difference between a very good board, and incoherent trash like this post.

Eff off with that crap and stop being such a homer. No one is bashing the team or the coaches. Objective observation is not your strong suit here. That's you and the other happy clappers go to, whenever someone makes a valid observation you immediately start in with the insults. I've probably been a fan longer than you so don't impugn my loyalty because I or anyone else states what they've observed. If someone comes here and simply starts trashing the team or coaches, go for it because they deserve it. But this aint that hoss.

Down 9 with under 3 minutes left, tie the game with 1:33 left. Conclusion...we quit.

12 psychos.

How'd that work out for us in the end? And I didn't even say I agreed with the thread title. In fact I have repeatedly stated that the one constant of this team is that they refuse to quit. I only saw it in one game all year when we got curb-stomped by 40. Tonight's game I think Precious quit but I don't even fault him for it, tonight wasn't his night, at all. I expected he would come out in the 2nd half flat because he sat most of the first. He couldn't get his game going for fear of picking up additional fouls and it showed in his tentative play for most of the 2nd half. Anyway, just because you're so good at being a douche doesn't mean you have to. That said we ALL want our team to do well so we do have common ground in spite of differences of opinion.

Meanwhile, the fix is in for Duke over NC. Even the ACC refs make boneheaded calls and non-calls. NC player just got hammered and no call and then they give the ball to Duke for the win in OT. I'm about ready to stop watching college hoops.

Don’t over think it too much. We lost because our front court couldn’t rebound the ball and we missed too many free throws. Precious and Lance both had tough games on a day when we needed them to be good.

The effort is there, the decision making was better and resulted in fewer turnovers. We were playing against the best defensive team in the conference and it showed.

RE: Looks like they’ve quit...
To be honest, I felt like Precious quit on Saturday. He was very frustrated with the officiating and he did take a hard fall. But it seemed when he untucked his shirt at the end of the bench, that he was declaring he was done for the day. He has been a hard player all year long and has not let the challenges that have come up impact his production. Until Saturday.

But gotta love the ole MTO coaches. All year it's been about "too many turnovers due to poor coaching". Saturday, only 11 turnovers. Still it's "poor coaching" because of, er, well - it just is.

Fact is we were without DJ, Malcolm, and Precious (forget James). We required 41 minutes from Lance/Isaiah. We finished the game with a 5 guard lineup. We shot 59% from FT's. We were outrebounded by 12. (FYI, none of that is coaching). And we still almost pulled it out.

I've been upset with different coaches & players in losses this year. And the loss Saturday was back-breaking. But I can't really blame anyone for that one - context matters. (Other than the officiating.)

I really wasn’t talking about the guys left on the court on Saturday, but instead wonder about the ones who opted to sit out instead.

It was literally our worst rated defensive game of the year against the #200 ranked offense. They say that defense is all effort so it would appear our effort was questionable.

There is only one quitter. The guy that was fine but didn't play in the Bahamas, the guy that was fine and didn't play in any of the exhibition, and the guy that was fine but left after playing 3 games.

It defies belief that someone could see the actual play, see how awkwardly Precious landed; see him writhing in pain, see the replay, and conclude that he opted to not play.

Who are the other ones? DJ who is out 6 weeks?, Thomas who couldn't put any weight on his ankle, or Dandridge who is coming off of major surgery? Maybe quitter LQ shouldn't have missed any games after breaking his hand.

You have to be sick.

Precious does not strike me as the dramatic type so when he started rolling across the floor I assumed he was possibly done for the season but immediately knew there was almost no chance he was reentering the game. Even if he wanted to I figure the staff would have refused to let him back in.
