The only talent that had the ability to dominate with just his physical gifts would have been Precious and he was hampered with fouls the entire game. Every other player you list needs more time.
I am sure UNC has more 4 and 5* than Georgia Tech...But 11-13 Georgia Tech won by 13 in Chapel Hill
Or
How about 9-15 Evansville winning by 3 against UK in lexington (ECU beat Evansville by 17)
None of this are excusable losses. Looking at the failure of others to justify your own is a losers mentality. I’m not into that. I get that bad losses happen, that is basketball. But that still doesn’t make the loss okay or excusable.
My point is it is not the end of the world.
And we had a ton of adversity in this game. To say there is no way we should lose is wrong. We were already shorthanded in the front court and this game we essentially had 2 less players.
Not the end of my world for sure, thank God my life and joy are not dependent on 18-21 year olds playing college basketball.
But for them, this is likely the end of their NCAA tournament dreams unless they win the conference tournament, so it is a major loss, especially considering it was South Florida...
I think we're just in different places...
I don't think this team is very good at all worth the roster they put out there today. Especially with precious in foul trouble.
Is it a bad loss for Memphis to lose to south Florida... sure.
But the roster just isn't good without precious. People can debate all day why that is... but it is not good regardless of the number of stars on the roster
We definitely are. Precious played, he just got himself into foul trouble so I do not consider this game as playing without him despite him playing very little in the first half. But I get where you are coming from.

If Penny would have brought in the #20 recruiting class everyone would be fine right now.
Ya, better player equate to higher expectations... I don’t think any fan base would not have high expectations with the talent sitting on our roster. We just lost to 10-12 South Florida, but ya okay it is unreasonable to expect to beat them on our home court...
Without our #1, #3 and best backup frontcourt player.
Just please rationalize UNC using the same logic you are applying to Memphis. Don't forget they lost to 10-12 Boston College on their own floor too... without missing 3 of their top players and having their best active player injured for the final 6 minutes of the game.

Not unreasonable to expect to win...But you have people suggesting Penny will never succeed because of the expectations from the beginning of this season.
Those people are not even looking at the circumstances surrounding the loss. What is the recruiting class ranked without Wiseman, Dandridge and DJ?
Understanding that this team is without 3 out of its top 5 front court players from the start of the year AND the best frontcourt player is in foul trouble the entire game until he gets hurt...Then the other front court player goes down as well. Anyone who ignores those circumstances is not being fair.
Don’t know but we still have much better talent than USF without them.
Precious 5*
Lester 4*
Boogie 4*
Lance 4*
Does USF have even one 4* player on their roster?
Alo, Harris, Baugh were probably ranked as high or higher than their best recruit. No excuse for losing to them on our home court.
Our coaching is far superior
Another idiotic post. Not surprising. We have by far the worst coaching I have seen since the late Pastner days. Just terrible. If you can't see that then get some freckin glasses.

I still think we have some real problems with the way we are handling road games.
The problem is consistent.

Why am I rationalizing UNC? They are having a terrible season that is far below expectations. The difference is one coach has multiple national championships so he is naturally going to be given a little slack... But as I said in an earlier post I am not willing to look at the failure of others as a justification for my failures. That is a losers mentality. I assure you that Penny is not sitting at his house tonight and justifying a loss to South Florida because UNC is having a bad season. That’s just silly.

Get outta here with the Tubby crap, and take the Penny can’t coach crap out the door with you.
We took a loss, it happens, S Florida should have beat us the first time plus about 6-10 other teams. This team’s been on the brink of losing games like this all season.
It’s called basketball, get used to it. Take in the circumstances specifically and it’s understandable.
But meltdown mt.org, meltdown and keep throwing the logs on the fire...the a** showers will show their ass*s and it’ll help those with discernment to see whose for real.
I said we’d be lucky to go 5-5 over the.last ten games, and now we’ll be lucky to go 4-6.
No win is a given.
Just pray our guys heal up.

UNC shoots free throws poorly, got outhustled for rebounds while trying to play Showtime rather than Grit and Grind basketball.
But they are so talented

RE: Tubby had one thing right!!!
Tubby set no expectations. None. His mentality set this program back 10 years.
He was a terrible recruiter. Remember Memphis can’t get national big name recruits.
You can’t quote anything he says after that...anything because credibility was lost.
I’d rather have a great recruiter that sets high expectations and a higher bar for himself and this program who falls short due to f*d up circumstances than the former.
Coach Penny will learn from this and be better for it.
People that pull out Tubby’s name after a bad loss in an 18-6 season can go take a hike.

Let's put it this way -- Precious probably had way more thoughts about winning the NCAAt than missing it. You think the players are going to look back on this year and think they did as well as they could have? I don't. But then, players probably never do, just fans.

I am not saying Penny is, just pointing out that even the best coaches struggle when their number one player is out. I doubt Roy is sitting at home after losing to 10-12 BC thinking about how his past championships justify his coaching ability either.
Not saying the USF win is not bad, but who we were missing and what the team currently is... to expect much different is just as silly.

Why would we not play a zone? Which player is to blame for this?
Our coaching is very suspect.
Get whipped at home by South Florida. Lose by 40 at Tulsa.
What is silly is posters making excuses for this type of performance.
It's been a tough year but we do not look like a well coached team.

RE: Tubby had one thing right!!!
No one is "excusing" the loss, Everyone on the board agrees its a bad loss.
No team that goes through the injures and roster losses we have had this year is going to look like a well oiled machine. No matter who our coach was, there were going to be some ugly stretches this year. Too many injuries, player losses and inexperience across the board not to. An assistance coach on the bench is not going to change the world given the current circumstances.

Maybe when the coach said all that his roster looked very different, come on man good grief, some of our fans kill me!! Any coach in the country could lose a 7'1 top NBA pick, a 6'7 4 star guy who was playing really really well, and have several other injuries and just keep winning so he doesn't make his whiny fans mad, shame on Penny. No excuses win anyway, smh

He may get that hall pass from most Tiger fans, but no one around the country - media, fans of other schools, coaches battling him for recruits, those future recruits, and the selection committee- gives a flip. Bottom line in most people's eyes is he had the # 1 class and may not even make the NIT with it playing in a weak Mickey Mouse league. Its a horrible look.
