Why not beat ESPIN and own that week starting off the season with the first “game day”?
Great idea IMHO.

It would be a good idea but Game Day will be in Dublin that day for the Navy/Notre Dame game. (Link)

EDIT: BTW, whereas Navy & ND needed a waiver to play in week 0, if a joint proposal from the AAC, ACC & Pac 12 succeeds, future teams that play a regular season game in a foreign country may, as a matter of course, play their first game in week 0. (Link)

Navy vs ND will be on either NBC or CBS though correct?
Does ESPN have the rights to any Week 0 games scheduled?

Seriously, billybobby, you must not pay much attention to AAC games vs contract-bowl-conference teams.

How do you mean?
Navy has a contract with CBS with 1 single holt game on ESPN. Didn’t know it was the ND home game. How do you know this is an every other year thing or just a 1 time thing this year?

I actually think the deal is the ND game when it's home for Navy and 1 other home game for Navy per year IIRC.

Wow. I didn’t realize CBS lost the Navy/ND game every other year. Plus the SEC games. Wow...

That could delay the inevitable as far as week 0 is concerned (I agree with Frank - it will eventually just become the new week 1). I wonder if this rule proposal passes, will we see more games played in exotic locations? Ohio State vs. Indiana from the Bahamas?

Also, does Canada count? If so, why not a Michigan game in Toronto or a Wisconsin game in Edmonton? Some driveable stadiums just across the border...

Yeah, man. Proposal just deals with borders, not distances. Funny, Syracuse and one of their opponents could get an extra week off by playing each other in Toronto. But send Cuse way 'cross country to play in a Pacific state? No dice!

If week 0 is destined to become week 1, I don't think that rule would delay its coming. Seems anything that might increase the number of W0 games could only hasten that outcome. Sort of, "Hey, we're seeing even more W0 games now. Why not everyone?"

Yep, good points. Short term it'll be a boon to soccer stadiums in Mexico and the Caribbean, too (SEC teams need a place to play as well!) Long term - just let everyone play as long as they take an extra bye week for players to recover...

So initially tongue in cheek because of your posting on home games that the non-contract-bowl-conference teams have with contract-bowl-conference teams.

But, yeah, it's kind of a major part of the AAC-ESPN deal. Second paragraph of the ESPN Press Release from March 2019
https://espnpressroom.com/us/press-relea...extension/
and discussed by Aresco and ESPN's Magnus in the full transcript:
https://espnpressroom.com/us/press-relea...ghts-call/

And it was highlighted a year earlier when CBSSN and AAC signed the deal for the Navy homegames:
http://mattsarzsports.blogspot.com/2018/...nique.html
https://www.capitalgazette.com/sports/na...y,amp.html

“Getting the Navy-Notre Dame game every other year is extremely valuable,” Aresco said. “That is really, really important.” May 9th 2018

gonna make years like last season with the extra week anyways seem extremely long. teams that play on week 0 would get 3 byes during the season.

The seasons are too short, imo. I would not mind if it would last, even with the extra byes.

Maybe. It all depends on what comes first; the desires of CBS and Fox to schedule games that weekend or the NFL releasing their preseason schedule as week 0 clashes with preseason week 3.

Consider this: longer seasons with more bye weeks also means fewer marquee games on Thursday and Friday nights.

That's already stopped by and large....

What we saw last year even with 2 byes though were some weekends were you had absolutly craptastic games as primary games....

I'm fine with that. An extra week also means another game of good weather in the northern half of the country. That's huge for attendance. Outside of marquee opponent, weather is the #1 factor for how many people show up, imo.

There is no reason the season couldn't start Aug 29 this year as opposed to Sept 5.

TV would prefer a 13 week CFB season, with one marquee game in week zero, to avoid having any mid-season weeks that only have meh matchups. The CFB audience is much larger in mid-season than in August, so effectively moving a week of good matchups from October 29th to August 29th is not a good deal for the TV guys.

The seasons are too short, imo. I would not mind if it would last, even with the extra byes.

I get what you are saying, but with 3 byes the season becomes really disjointed.

Consider this: longer seasons with more bye weeks also means fewer marquee games on Thursday and Friday nights.

That's already stopped by and large....

What we saw last year even with 2 byes though were some weekends were you had absolutly craptastic games as primary games....

Craptastic to you, but a true CFB fan, not so much. I really appreciate watching CFB games all day.

Well the true CFB fans weren't watching lets say that. There were weekends last year where the top game on networks were getting not even 3-4 million viewers....

What else is there to watch. Isn't that what we are talking about? Sports live is what is driving viewers in this part of the season/year. ESPiN is making the big bucks off of it or it would not be an issue.

I actually think the deal is the ND game when it's home for Navy and 1 other home game for Navy per year IIRC.

Wow. I didn’t realize CBS lost the Navy/ND game every other year. Plus the SEC games. Wow...

Maybe CBS will try to outbid NBC for the Notre Dame contract? Its ten year term runs out in 2025.

right. They prefer the 13 weeks with 1 bye because all the weeks are set. Having the 2nd bye spread things out so much..... Led to 3-4 really putrid weeks.
