So former Navy SEAL Greg DeLuca (Safety) is the only new addition today, the other 13 are guys who had already announced, it just became official today.

Graduated HS in 2009, interesting. Good for him, hope he does great.

I love the idea of having a tough as hell guy on the team that is probably mature and keeps other players in perspective. Kind of like the D end we had from Bureau Valley a few years ago....I forget his name (Jake Kaufman?) but that guy was a huge positive for the team...and a good player

I think you are thinking of the right guy, but don't think he was from Bureau Valley. The only Bureau Valley guy we got that I remember was Garrett Barnas.

Coffman was from German Valley, IL and I think he went to Forreston High School

Agree. We really added well at the skills, RB,QB,WR,DBs. Love to see some surprise meat transfer in on either side of the line.

There is never such a thing as too many quality lineman on either side of the ball.

We have kind of a strange situation at O-Line considering we have a LOT of experience coming back (126 games played) AND a lot of youth. We have 4 SR's with a lot of game played between them, and then 12 guys who will be Soph's or younger. So if, and its always a big if, we can stay healthy this year with our veterans and give all the young guys another year to develop we could be in really good shape up front on offense for several years to come!

On defense there are a lot more questions up front. We know that inside Heflin and Kramer are going to be good, but behind them is a whole lot of unknown, with only one soph DT, and all the rest Frosh (RS and True). On the outside the only real known is Lorbeck and we badly need him to step up as a SR. We only return 8.5 career sacks at the DE position so pass rush is going to be a major concern. Some young guys who have not played are going to have to really step in and step up. That is a big spot where if we were going to go after a grad transfer it would make a lot of sense.

That’s the guy! Coffman was a great team player and brought a lot to the program. Perhaps DeLuca will have a similar impact

We desperately need a transfer or a guy to step up and put pressure on the QB. We had zero pass rush last season...

With the injury to the LBs I don’t think we blitzed as much. I’d expect a more aggressive approach this year. Lorbeck would get very close. Just didn’t record the sacks.

Don't see anything up at this moment, maybe tomorrow there will be, but the early signing period has made the Feb signing day a not so significant event. More than likely just the formal announcement of the players who have committed since early signing period. I'm sure Coach Hammock's twitter:

https://twitter.com/NIUCoachHammock?ref_...r%5Eauthor

and the 2020 Class twitter:

https://twitter.com/hashtag/20TheHardWay...ick&f=live

will have details.
I count 40 new players! That is a haul.

Jacob Waskow, Donavan Bieber, Trayvon Rudolph, CC Fish, Jayden Lambert, Beyer, Devonte O'Malley and CJ Dunn all still have NIU commitments pinned to their twitter pages and just may not be signing NLI's which is why they haven't been formally announced. That does mean they could change their minds at any time, but as of now looks like they are all expected on campus in the fall making this class even more impressive!

RE: National Signing Day Huskies adds !!!
Hats off to Hammock and his staff for all the hard work putting together what I think will turn out to be a great class! It takes a lot of time and effort to sign this many players.

I really liked this when I first saw it; Hammock and Eidsness wanted Jay Ducker bad and put the extra effort to get him signed! https://twitter.com/DuckerJevyon/status/...0588583938

BTW, I hope his high school coach's post about his firmly believing Ducker will be an All-American turns out to be correct!

I am excited about the future of Huskie football! Regardless of how one might feel about Hammock, you have to acknowledge and be thankful for the time and effort put in by him and his staff in recruiting this class!

Hammock Is showing he could be a great recruiter. Now let’s see him be great at the X’s and O’s. We don’t want a Tim Lester situation here. The next few seasons look to be some very exciting football in DeKalb.

Totally agree NILAW I see nothing but good things coming for the program-maybe not in the next year or 2 but IMO look out MAC after that.

I, personally, think that Hammock and this staff will turn out to be very good game plan, X's & O's, ect coaches. When you read about what NFL players have to say about Hammock, and the successes that some of the others have had at prior stops it all sounds impressive. I think last year was a lot of growing pains in terms of an entirely new staff, none of which had been together the prior year. So they had to learn not only the players, but each other. Then the fact that Hammock went from a position coach to a head coach there were obviously some bumps in the road in terms of game management but that should be improved in year two as well. Another year in their systems for returning players will be big as well.

In addition to that. There's a big offensive line coming in from Wisconsin. That's the foundation to all success, and he's laying a great one down.

Yes, that O-line is definitely key to everything, and Hammock knows it well. A strong, solid O-line will open holes for the RB and also give the QB the luxury of time to throw. Hopefully, the receivers will use that extra time to get open.

Agree about the Oline but they will need at least one year in the weight room before these 18 year olds can be competitive with 22 - 23 year olds. Otherwise they will be pushed around and get hurt. good things are ahead but we will need patience.

There are 5 seniors plus Cox and Potter who played last year as redshirt freshmen, so barring injury the true freshman shouldn't have to be thrown in the fire. With Cox and Potter plus the 3 guys we brought in last year, and Webster who will be a Jr this year, they could potentially all redshirt this year, be primary backups who rotate in the year after and then all be ready to take over in full in their 3rd year. All in a perfect world of course!

I'm only aware of three senior O linemen: Patton, Olson and Perez. Warner, Hawn and Gueths hung it up after last season.
