It wasn't too long ago people were criticizing Abdul Nader. Three years in the pros.

Different situation there. He quit on NIU, I will never get on someone for being critical of him

True but criticizism of his game is invalid. People were bitching before he left.

Can't call me negative. Sorry, but no.

Just looking at reality.

Wishing the best for the future. And there may be nuggets there. But not a team's worth. All I say is, looking at the whole package-- it is disappointing. It is the same point as lack of cheerleaders, lack of marketing, lack of everything.

Look at some basketball from any other conference and then look at that NIU Miami game and if you still think I am wrong, well, then we differ.

The goal for this program should be to realistically challenge for a NCAA Tournament bid every year. Are we there? Are we close? Are we closer today than we were a year ago?
You know what I think the answers to those questions are. What are yours?

Number one, I said he's very talented, but unless you actually saw a Paul Dawkins, Allen Rayhorn, Donnell Thomas, T.J. As to diminished opposition, seriously do some research and there were fewer teams like Rockford, Longwood, Illinois Tech, and St. Francis-IL, (for the record, those teams are the ones against whom he's scored 88 of his points plus another 91 in four meetings with vaunted Chicago State.
The MAC is NOT as strong as ever.
You're entitled to your opinion and I'm entitled to mine: German is a tremendous player who will always be in the Huskie recordbook. as he should be. However, I consider some others to be have been more prominent players.

A lot of great players in that group. For you old-timers, please rank the top 5 or 10 for us. Does German even rank in the top 5?

Glad I bought a program (more like a roster list) for the game. On a nice drive to the basket, too.

Then with the shot clock running down he hit a 3 to go to 2000 points. Really glad I was there.

Also, Lacey James played like he was going to get the rebound and nobody was going to stop him. We'll totally miss him next year.

+1. A special game. The standing O's gave me chills. So glad I was there for it. One of those Huskie History moments you had to be at.

You can feel there were many better than German but why on his day. Yesterday was Germans day! For the record, German played these teams also and all on the road: Iowa St twice 28 and 24pts. Michigan St. 20pts, Marquette 26pts, Iowa 20pts, Butler 20pts, Pittsburgh 18pts, St.Marys 16pts and also played #14 Buffalo

Thank you dc1 for bringing facts to this argument. We could bring George Bork or Jimmy Capers to the list of greats, but there is no way Geno could be taken off the all time Huskie team players. There are still haters as MD pointed out but I was glad to see Diehard and NIU007 were at the game and enjoyed the moment. Maybe they realized Monty had a little to do with the great enjoyment they had. Forget your hate of Monty. right or wrong, and go cheer the Huskies on in person. Beat Toledo.

GO HUSKIES!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I have no problem with people having different opinions as to who’s the greatest but the guy with the most points ever and only Huskie to ever score 2,000 points cannot be left off any all- time great team for said school!

Once again, German is in the history books and will be considered among the all-time greats -- deservedly so and forever forward -- but where he ranks is open to discussion.
Not based on a desire to prevent the spotlight from being placed on him, I was simply agreeing with Chihuskie that regardless of the current standings -- and despite German's achievement -- that game was boring for several reasons. One being the lackluster play exhibited in contrast to the "blowout" score; two being the atmosphere with limited Silverettes, chererleaders, etc.; and especially three, the absence of promoting a game being televised nationally with the added possibility of record-setting.
As Chihuskie noted: the expectation of a program realistically challenging for an NCAA Tourney berth is reasonable.
Are we there yet? No.
Are we closer today than a year ago? No.
After nine years under Monty are we any closer? No.
Considering how clear a change is needed, blame STF for unnecessary contract extensions.
Considering the game should have been promoted better, blame marketing -- the lack thereof or STF.
Blame Donna Turner and her staff for failure as well. Flipped around the Chicago newscasts Saturday night, saw highlight clips from Notre Dame game, Purdue edging Northwestern at the buzzer, UIC pulling out a win at Cleveland State, DePaul losing another Big East game, Loyola hosting and beating Bradley --- but zilch on NIU. Was any extra effort made to remind Chicago folks the game was airing on CBSSN and the possibility was there for German to become the career scoring leader and perhaps even hit the 2000 milestone? Did they phone it in, text it, e-mail it, fax it, send a carrier pigeon? It's not enough to just post things on your website and it's pretty obvious at least three of the five Chicago stations were not aware.
And the MAC has not been as strong as ever, and the overall schedule quality has decreased for a number of reasons. And yet, Monty's won-loss record remains substandard.

Yes, I'm worried about next year. But for now I'll just say that German is one of the top few best I've seen play for NIU in decades. And it was fun to be there, despite the fact that neither team shot particularly well, and NIU had at least 4 times where an NIU player passed the ball out of bounds, either off target, or the other player wasn't ready for the pass. NIU is 6-3 so I'll hold off on complaining for now.

Also, some of the game was boring. But the end was not, even though it was a blowout. Maybe you had to be there.

Hey NIUOO7, I watched my recording of the game yesterday and saw the back and top of your head on TV. You are a national TV star! Too bad you didn't have an ad on the top of your head! Next time I see you, I'd like you to autograph MY head! 04-jawdrop

Good luck with that! Athletics would never pay you and if you find a sponsor, Athletics will grab the money.

German is such a fun player to watch. This team is a bit different structure with the roster than the last few. You're seeing some of the newer guys have more and more important roles.

MD's projects scare me. The next 4 will tell us a lot.

The good thing about that 3-game home sweep to me, is that I think it allows NIU to go 1-2 in the next 3 games against the Toledo. Kent State, Ball State gauntlet. NIU can be 7-5 headed into the final 6 games and still be in great position to snag a 4 seed. Just by winning 1 of the next 3 games would put NIU firmly on a 10 win most likely scenario with a potential at 11. Now if NIU somehow shocked everyone and took 2 of these next 3, then I think NIU starts to elevate into the "likely" bye scenario.
