RE: Akron @ Kent State
Really balanced conference this year. Yes, BG hasn't lost since heir opener against Kent State, but their seven wins have been by an average of 4.5 points with no winning margin greater than none points. And they are only up by one tonight with less than three minutes to go. Should be really interesting all the way to the tournament championship game.

RE: Akron @ Kent State
Can someone explain to me what happened at the end of the first half? There was 2.2 seconds on the clock and the shot clock showed 1. We don't know if that was a full second, but I believe the shot clock doesn't go to 1 until it's actually 1.0. So that would mean there is between 0.1 and 1.0 seconds left on the shot clock. They inbound it and somehow have time to pass it back to the inbounder and get a jump shot off. Then it's reviewed and they take the shot away but there's no time left on the clock. Look, either Akron got the shot off before the shot clock violation (there's absolutely no way that happened) or they didn't and there's at least 1.2 put back on the clock. Not that it would've made much of a difference... But what in the world were they doing?

Very poorly officiated game. Some horrible calls both ways. I did think we got the worse end of it especially in the first half.

Glad we won though. Very exciting hard fought game. Great job by Phil on the last play. We gotta do a better job on the defensive glass and Williams needs to stop walking the ball up. But hey, feel a lot better than we did three games ago.

Very fun game! Not as awesome as "Chris Brewer coast-to-coast." I'll tale it. My favorite part was Simmons' steal in the first half. It was not very athletic or slick, but Akron was napping.

Yeah if someone could just figure out what caused that 3 game losing streak they would be rich.

What a great game by both teams. I can not take many of these. Another heart game.

So we trailed most of the first half. Sean Lewis came out at halftime and yelled at the Akron section to get a good look at the wagon wheel because they aren't going to see it again. Then we led most of the second half. Coincidence? Probably...but maybe not!

RE: Akron @ Kent State
I thought the halftime football ceremony was fantastic. I think it’s safe to say KSU hasn’t had a football coach like SL in a long time, if ever.

It was also great to see Phil Whittington return to form. I thought the biggest adjustment Kent made was limiting the Zips free throws in the second half. 10/10 in the first and I think they only took four in the second. And KSU did a great job of getting to the line in the second half.

UA was better defensively than I thought they’d be. But I think a lot of that had to do with how they rebounded and lost Tuesday.

Kent State isn’t perfect. But I don’t think any MAC team is. Could be the most fun tournament we’ve seen in a while. Hard not to argue the four best teams played tonight.

Agree that no team is. Even if you gave BG a mulligan on its MAC season opening big loss to KSU at home, their 8 wins have been by an average of fewer than 4.5 points, with no double-digit wins. Granted, that is one mark of a good team, winning all the competitive games. But it certainly shows that they are not "perfect", either.

Sendy said Whittington back has been bothering him. That makes some sense now.

Yeah, Burden I saw that, too, about Whittington. That's the first time it was mentioned. What's the story on Santiago? I think I read a while back that he was injured? They could use his minutes.

Very surprised we didn’t get hosed on that final shot and that would’ve been huge. Like you said, since it was a shot clock violation with 1.2 on the game clock it should’ve been our ball with 1.2 and a chance to do what they just did in that amount of time.

First half officiating was really lopsided IMO, they were going to the line for little to no contact and announcers kept saying you can’t put them on the line. Ok!?! They’re barely making contact and getting called. Anyway, thought it was called much more evenly in the 2nd half, surprised they didn’t find a way to call a foul on us on that last possession and game on the line.

Great energy, great crowd, too bad we can’t get that for people other than Summit County CC.

The officials were really doing an awful job all night.
PLEASE dont give credit to the football team.
I think the golf team that WINS EVERY YEAR got the fans going.
Finally, why didnt Roberts close out the game. Mitch cant guard his shadow let alone switch and guard Jackson. Plus with Mitch and CJ in we only have three viable options on offense.

There should have been 1.2 seconds on the clock and our ball. Those three refs, especially the older one and the hispanic guy, travel the country every night as seen on TV. Not my favorite refs. I've seen too much of them. 03-banghead

Why not give credit to both? Or better yet, give credit to football, golf AND mens basketball.

Really? Not only did I not give them credit the post I quoted didn’t either so I have no idea where that BS comment is coming from. But now that you’ve mentioned it, it was nice seeing Coach Lewis and players representing and help getting the enthusiasm level up.

Why was Todd Diacon mopping the key? At first I thought it was an antic with him air guitaring, but he stayed out the whole game. Not being cynical. I thought it was funny.

I’ve seen him at other games doing the same thing. Maybe the 10 year olds went on strike.

RE: Akron @ Kent State
In regards to why Mitch finished the game instead of Roberts, we have been playing significantly better with Mitch and Williamson on the floor together. So that was 100% the right call by Sendy. Mitch might not put up much of any numbers, but he defends and boxes out better than Roberts IMO.

I actually thought him getting two fouls in the first half was very big because of how well we've been playing with him and CJ in there. And both of his first half fouls were super questionable. The first one was called an illegal screen and he was moving, but the Akron players (Cheese I think) started stumbling two steps before and ran into him while off balance. That's not an illegal screen. The next one was the ridiculous fast break play where again Cheese fell on his own and Mitch happened to be in th same zip code. Cheese was being awkward and clumsy and the refs took the... Cheese.

I thought the officiating was ok. I went home and watched the replays and I replayed the fouls you are talking about 2-3 times. I thought like you when at the game, but I changed my mind after watching the replays. In fact, Mitch did push Cheese in the middle of the back on the fast break. That is called every time. BTW, I want Mitch on the floor during all end of games.
