Akron @ Kent State
The Golden Flashes welcome the Akron Zips to the Memorial Athletic and Convocation for a 6:30 tip on Friday. Akron is coming off a tough home loss to the Buffalo Bulls.
Leading the way for the Zips offense is Loren Christian Jackson. The 5'8 senior averages 19 points per game and is shooting 46% from beyond the arc. He also leads the team in assists and steals. The top rebounder for Akron is 6'9 senior Xerox Williams. Weighing in at 215 pounds, the Springfield Ohio product is pulling down almost 10 a game for the Zips.
Other Akron Zips include a dude named Cheese and Ali Ali.

Kent will win the game
84 to 79 or so

I am hot for this game. Will go to bed tonight wearing a KSU sweatshirt. Game should be tight, maybe OT. I would like to win in a blowout. Does anyone know anything about Santiago?

One minor correction to your post: Jackson is a redshirt Junior.

I hope Santiago can give us some minutes. I like his defense and hes really starting to make some shots. Always in the flow of the game. KSU up 15 early. Groce gets a technical they come storming back. KSU by 4.

Mike Scott - in the locker room of the Gund moments before tip off of the 2008 championship game.

Ahh yes. Here's a look back at that one...

Box Score:

https://kentstatesports.com/sports/mens-...score/5181

Funny things about the box score. "Q" only had 6 boards and 1 block. Al Fisher was 3 - 13 and Kent State only shot 12 three pointers.

Here's an archived article from the 2017 MAC Championship Game. Too much Jimmy Hall!

That 2008 game was amazing. 13K people there and probably a 4:1 ratio of Kent to Zippy fans. That game completed a three-game season sweep.

2017 was so satisfying in that UA was the darling of the league all year, marched into the finals with a 26-7 record and was promptly and unceremoniously dispatched to the NIT. Stunning performance by Jaylin that night. Mitch also had a big three late.

It was also the final game for Keith Dambrot, who got so sick and tired of losing the title game in a one-bid league he ran for Duquesne (where he has done nothing).

He was 15-5 this year but then lost two straight A10 games to fall to 15-7. He needs to shake up his starting line up (ha ha) or this season might go down the drain too.

Wasn't that also the year of the fight where Q ran over to Woods after the fight and yells "check mate" taunting him for comparing Kent to a chess player that gets beat by the same guy every time they play so they mentally would beat themselves.

I'm on campus now and it feels like there should be a good turnout for this game.

Whittington is still MIA and this team can’t get to the line to save its f-ing life.

Thank God for the football team coming out at halftime or this crowd would be silent.

What’s been called a foul on one end hasn’t been on the other end; that one foul they called on Peterson when he made zero contact with the Zip was horrible as was the no-call on the drive in the paint leading to the finger wag. Luckily the last second shot did not count, but why on earth do we not contest the inbound there? You’re guaranteeing them that give and go opportunity for a 3 when one defender makes the inbound pass that much more difficult.

Allowing all those offensive rebounds sure isn’t helping. Seems like every time we catch up Akron has a small run in them.

I’m sure glad that 10 second violation didn’t cost us. I think Sendy almost had a heart attack after that one. Great game though.

80% from the line again and they needed every one. So, in the first half of the MAC season they beat Akron and Toledo, and on the road beat Buffalo, Toledo again, and BG. Yet, there were those three awful losses. Strange conference.

Yeah if someone could just figure out what caused that 3 game losing streak they would be rich.
