RE: Was last years team better?
The poor quality of our non conference schedule this season cannot be overstated, mediocre teams look great against the bottom 200+...this team is getting exposed

Was last years team better?
We miss Sam Mitchell. He was the X and O guy. Nobody on this staff has that right now. We are getting out coached every game and it's getting worse. I feel sorry for the players. They are not being put in a position to be successful.

RE: Was last years team better?
at this point last season we were 12-7 with 4 losses to top 25 teams and trending upward
right now we are 14-5 with 1 loss to a top 25 team and trending downward

Lomax, Tyler, boogie, lester and Lance.
I also have no idea why we are still giving up the 1-5 switch
We can lose one more in the regular season and make the tourney...I don't see that happening.
We're going to have to win the tourney
So he could stick to that ridiculous 1-5 switch defense. He cant do it with Dandridge, so he puts in the personel he thinks can do it. Oh, they cant either.
What teams have realized is that Precious, Lance and DJ can guard the one...Earlier in the season teams used to try to attack them. Now they are just patient...Have the big go to the rim and abuse Alo, Tyler or Boogie.
Really not that hard.
The 1-5 defense is simple to coach...But if you don't have the players to do it you are essentially throwing them under the bus. Same goes for the 4 around 1 offense...Philosophies have to change until we get players who can execute strategies Penny wants to run.

Switching explains a lot of it, but some of these wide open threes we give up are just players not recognizing who has the ball. Opponents dare Maurice to shoot a three but get all over Tyler Harris. We let their best 3-point shooter have two wide open threes in the last five minutes.

Because of the switch everything defense employed, Memphis easily gets stuck with a small guard on a big in the paint. To compensate, the taller Memphis defender now on a perimeter opponent, has to slough off to help defend the opponent big in the paint by the vulnerable small Memphis guard - this especially & consistently the case offside. In the SMU game they continued to quickly work the ball until they had a set perimeter shooter with time to take a good shot - time after time, with a Memphis defender running at the shoot from near the paint.

So true...Penny talks about the guys not communicating.
But if there are shooters in both corners and the big has a mismatch...neither can help. Do we just let the big abuse our guard.
We are in a pick your poison situation all because me allowed the offense to determine our matchups. Gotta stop allowing the big little switch.
Even when we had Wiseman against Oregon the announcers were befuddled why we were switching Wiseman on a point guard.

Amazing how Cinci can guard the high screen with Vogt who can barely move yet we have to sit Malcolm because we cant do it.
Its because they will not allow the other team to get a switch when they set the screen.

I love ya macgar, but you’ve beaten this point to death. Let it go. You’re debating coaching philosophy. Penny clearly disagrees with you.

They are better than the roster we put out there tonight.
Essentially 1/2 of our recruiting class didn't play.
So you add two top 50's, a top 100 and a top 15 in foul trouble (All Freshmen) to a roster of bench players from an NIT team...Should you expect to win.

They are on opposite trajectories.
Last year seniors led the team... this year its freshmen.
