How about adding three Texas schools?
Adding Baylor and TCU as full member and Texas as partial member (football independent).
North Division:
Pittsburgh
Louisville
Miami
BC
Syracuse
Virginia Tech
Virginia
UNC
(Notre Dame playing five northern schools.)
South Division:
Clemson
Florida State
Georgia Tech
Duke
Wake Forest
NC State
Baylor
TCU
(Texas playing five southern schools.)

RE: How about adding three Texas schools?
I don't like restricting Notre Dame and Texas to play one division each - why not rotate them both through the entire league? - but the idea of Texas + 2 more isn't bad.

Baylor is a damn hard sell since they lack academic freedom
I can't imagine the holy hell raised at Duke, UNC, NC State, UVa, VT, Pitt, and Syracuse - pun intended. You will mash up religion and gender into a toxic brew.

RE: How about adding three Texas schools?
There is absolutely no need to add anyone else from Texas, if you get the University of Texas on a Notre Dame deal.
The University of Texas delivers the entire state better than anyone else that would come with them ...
The University of Texas on a Notre Dame deal would have 7 other dates on their football schedule to play whoever they wanted to from the state of Texas ...
With UT on a ND deal, we'd have 16 hoops playing members, which is the perfect number for a post season tourney.
So .. in short ...
No thanks.

Agreed... but I thought the premise was that Texas would want a couple of tagalongs so that they would have some neighbors, too?

Texas will only join ACC if they can bring two little brothers along. Don't have to be Baylor and TCU. Could be Rice and Texas Tech. But Baylor and TCU have stronger football and basketball programs.

I have never seen anyone connected to Texas say that they want to bring other Texas schools with them.
And in fact, it was Texas who killed the 6 team move to the PAC way back when ... including 3 other schools from Texas.
I think that assertion is just message board mythology.
A football independent Texas, with an ND arrangement with the ACC, gives them plenty of games to play Texas foes. Every other sport has plenty of schedule to do the same.

You're probably right about me overvaluing UTSA and UTEP, but I was making a point about Rice... they are WAY, WAY below the top 5 - and that includes Houston and SMU. For that matter, Tulane is better than Rice; Memphis is WAY better. Rice is simply a non-starter. Appalachian State would be a better addition than Rice - and that's not saying much.

Rice has the ability to be an attractive candidate unlike most of that list. They just don’t care it seems.
TCU, SMU, and Rice are the only attractive candidates in my opinion. Maybe Houston.

That’s a good point. UT home games will be broadcast on the LHN, would not be enough UT inventory on the ACCN to demand the carriage fee.

But ... we're talking about a situation where ESPN owns BOTH The Longhorn Network and the ACC Network.
They will figure out a way to make sure they can charge full carriage for the ACC Network in the second biggest state in the country -- and growing rapidly. It is their business after all.
Having THE state university in that state would be a HUGE money maker for the ACC.

Would depend on the game. Vs North Texas? Sure. Vs Clemson? ABC
LHN carries most of their Olympic sports and games not worthy of being picked up by ESPN or FOX. Most of their "big" games would still be on ESPN/ABC.
That's why I think you have to have a bigger reason than an occasional Texas away game, that's a dud enough to fall to the ACCN, in order to get traction in The Lone Star state.
