The Cleveland Council can vote on whatever they want, but it still is a federal crime.

Which is rarely enforced and then to much ridicule.

Gotta figure this will cost him a few million as his agent negotiates upcoming contract. I guess there is a chance Cleveland backs away from Kareem and he will need to do another minimum deal with whoever he can get to sign him. Is trouble like this is in his genes - not just a dumb mistake?

I think the "BGalum" is having a dominant day over the "UTfan." :)

I am still a Kareem/UT fan. Like many UT fans I am diappointed with this UT hero. Saying issues are somewhat out of his control (scientists tell us alcohol/drug abuse have a genetic factor) makes it is easier to remain a Kareem fan (if I think his issues are somewhat beyond his control).

I think I'm more of a nurture over nature person. Gives me hope. Your unique screen name, I saw an opening to take a shot at "that" school and I took it. 04-cheers

RE: Damn it, Kareem!!!
Kareem almost certainly has mental health issues. he had a traumatic upbringing and his father was locked up most of his childhood. he displays some classic symptoms of being engaging, charasmatic and upbeat on the surface but expressing pain, bursts of anger and self doubt when few are looking or he is under mental stress. the fact he was a star athlete with that great smile and fun personality has likely given him a pass on addressing his mental health. the drinking and weed are likely self medication and we know the drinking has been counter productive.

Yes - I started to write the exact comment, then deleted it because I am not a mental health professional - and I didn't stay at a Holiday Inn Express recently. But I have known a few people that have gone in this same direction (substance abuse) with one eventually committing suicide. Seems for many it shows up later in life when they can't deal with tough situations that come up - and they self medicate to ease the emotional pain.

My hope is the Browns stay with him and he gets the help he needs - and sticks with a plan and has a sponsor he can confide in if there is no one in his family or immediate circle of friends that can function in that role. He has definitely displayed some of the outbursts and bad decision making that indicates this is more than a bad guy but rather a guy that is struggling to find real meaning in his life beyond his career in sports. Taking that away from him would be disastrous in my opinion (again, not a mental health professional)

I think there are others on this board that have worked as counselors, etc. Wonder what your opinions are. Do you throw him out and move on, or work to see if he can be emotionally uplifted. Not a proponent of medication to ease depression as the only solution. That is not health care.

RE: Damn it, Kareem!!!
Many of us recall that Kareem was suspended for a couple games (including the Toledo victory over Arkansas) for undisclosed reasons. Likely that was the time the UT staff really needed to get Kareem the help he needed to deal with possible dependency issues. Instead of punishment, professional counseling may have been more beneficial.

I would not classified him as a hero ! As a UT great football player would be the description.

I, for one, don’t know what the U did for him when he played here, nor do I know why he was suspended. I don’t see him as a lost cause- if getting drunk and getting in fights disqualify you I would have been done long ago. Age and experience are great teachers-since he’s constantly in the public eye I hope he’s taking notes and learning.

Its very possible he did receive help in school. People like him have relapses, several times. I work for the VA and I see it all the time with our vets. I hope the NFL and the Browns don't come down hard on him. Continue with the help.

I never did that stuff....

As a friend used to say - a few beers and the next thing you know you think you're 10 feet tall and bulletproof...

I'm surprised nobody hasn't mentioned that Hunt basically hosed himself out of a Super Bowl appearance.

He mentioned it himself, to the cop. It was in that article posted above. I mean, that's how the mind wants it to be but you can never know. It might have been the change that made that team stronger. Might have brought a different character or balance. Nothing to do but lament.

I’ve heard rumors but he’s never really been seen has he? After all, he’s always. . .
