I'm still not going to get too hyped up. Winning is always better than the alternative, but I want to see how they look on the road against quality opponents. Next week is an opportunity for Lopes to show if they are for real or not. A split tells me "Maybe." Two losses and it's back to the drawing board.

Well sure. And no disrespect to CSU or UMKC but yeah... those are games you have to win. Losing to CSUB wasn’t great to start things off. CBU is a solid team so losing in Riverside isn’t damming.

So yes. I’m with you as far as not being on the hype wagon. More like... I honestly didn’t see us beating Seattle and was 50/50 about UMKC. It’s just good to know our only WAC win isn’t Chicago State.

Pistol, can I make a suggestion? First off, I appreciate you taking the time to start these threads. It takes some work and research on your part. Thank you for that.

Can you either list the home team second (ie, NMSU vs UTPANAMRIOGV) or state NMSU @ UTESPNCBSNBCRGV. Thanks for your consideration.

Wow. Look it up yourself. Good grief. WAC website has the entire years schedule. Thanks Pistol for everything you do.

So I need to go to a second site to try and get the complete picture? I praised Pistol and made a simple request. I ask a simple question, I get a simple answer and Pistol didn't have to do anything extra except respond to my post. He pointed out how he always takes into account who is home/away. All of which had nothing to do with you.

Banned from Aggie Alert and still picking fights. You hear that? Your own kind don't want you around on our board. One track mind that's obsessed about GCU and then say they are not a rival. When in fact, they are YOUR biggest rival because you obsess over them. It's all you talk about. All you mention. Every single thread or post, you bring GCU into it somehow. Pathetic. No self awareness at all to know how you come off and how silly you look. 07-coffee3

+1, Dancing is the biggest hypocrite out there. He has always been a douche.

You're thinking UTRGV and UVU are games you ought to win? I think we have a 50-50 chance.

Not necessarily. They’re two of the teams with more losses than wins in conference, but Canyon can lose to either of them at this point. Depends on which guys decide to show up.

We’ve also just beat Seattle so we know we can match up against them in the rematch. This year no win is certain. I just figure we should get a couple more over the next two weeks based on the last week and a half. If we knock off UVU it’ll be more indicative of our chances against the Vaccaros.

Brenda Vaccaro is the actress. She was pretty damn nice in her prime (late 60's, early 70's) so being associated with her would be no insult to our team. Nevertheless, we are the Vaqueros.

Some WAC announcer a few years back kept calling us the "va-queer-os" but I think it was just ignorance of Spanish rather than intentional.

NMSU 13 UTRGV 12 a quarter of the way through.

New Mexico State stay's undefeated beating UTRGV. NMSU still having trouble finishing games but get's another road win. Now 15-6 and 6-0 in WAC play. NMSU returns home for two vs Bakersfield and GCU.

Sorry about the misspelling. Vaqueros. That’s right.

Well, GCU fell short. UVU is a talented team. Y’all held your own against the Aggies. The game between our two schools should be good. Look forward to it!!

Congratulations on the 21st consecutive WAC win.

But I'd say the opposite: NMSU is very good at closing out close games. Lots of single digit wins in those 21, but now I don't think it's luck - somehow they know how to hang on to a 3 point lead.

NMSU has 10 double digit wins in those 21 games. But NMSU was up 20+ when we took out our starters vs UTRGV in Las Cruces last year and ended up winning by single digits so really that is 11. NMSU was up by 12 at the 4 minute mark. We should have won tonight by double digit but didn't finish. We gave UTRGV some life at the end.

Chris Jans moves to 33-3 in WAC games all-time and 73-17 all-time at NMSU, and 96-29 all-time during his career. He could win #100 vs UMKC in a few weeks.

Even with the injuries, NMSU still by far the best team in the WAC.

I would feel more comfortable with your statement if NMSU had beaten UTRGV with Javon Levi playing last night. NMSU had control of the game for the most part but you have to admit Levi plays a major factor in how the Vaqueros operate. Levi leads the WAC in assists with 8.6 per game. Without Queen, NMSU is still the best team in the WAC by slimmest of margins. We need Queen back fully healthy by the WAC tournament or every game will be a nail biter.

They have several talented players. I watched them play Kentucky early in the year and they we’re within a couple of baskets right up until the end.

Not to imply playing well against GCU is the measuring stick to determine talent. Not this season anyway. UVU just played a good game. They shot nearly 50% in the first half and withstood a late surge at the end of the game to hold on to the win.

RE: WAC Basketball week 12 (WAC week 4)
NMSU is three starters down and some key players off the bench hurt and still winning. If NMSU wins the next two home games it’s not a matter of are we going to win the WAC but more like can we still go undefeated. That being said it wouldn’t surprise me if we dropped a game or two and even get upset in the tournament with the current lineup. Williams needs to hit the three for one thing and Gilyard needs to stop turning the ball over so much at the point guard position
