I agree with the jersey retirement. The “All American” requirement probably needs to be evaluated. Can a G5 player actually reach All American status in this day and time?

If Coach Bartow's requirements are going to dumbed down then Mo Finley is every bit as deserving as AJ. Played in a much tougher league and excelled on a much larger stage.

But I don't really have a problem with it. AJ is worthy. It sucks there won't be more than 3,000 in the building to see it. The Memphis game would have been a better choice.

If Mike Davis shows up for this, I plan to boo him.

This is where I am. I love AJ, and maybe he is deserving of this, but when I think of UAB basketball over the last 20 years, the first person who comes to my mind is Mo.

Ja Morant...

I was curious so I looked up all Mid-Major All-Americans since 2010 (list excludes Gonzaga and Big East players):
2020 Obi Toppin (seems like a safe bet to put this here)
2019 Ja Morant
2018 Jock Landale
2015 Seth Tuttle
2014 Shabazz Napier
2014 Cleanthony Early
2014 Sean Kilpatrick
2012 Isaiah Canaan
2011 Jimmer Fredette
2011 Kemba Walker
2011 Kenneth Faried
2011 Kawhi Leonard

Mo Finley, Robert Vaden, Andy Kennedy, Chris Cokley, and Robert Brown since the deep postseason stuff don’t matter. AJ did play on teams that made it to the NIT or better in each of his 4 seasons, iirc.

RE: UAB Set to Retire Aaron Johnson’s Jersey
Would we boo Mike Davis if he was white? He left on our terms and his only poor season according to our new lowered standards was on the heels of the death of his mother and another close family member. Last guy that had us legitimately relevant even in our own state. Yes, he tried to leave multiple times and who wouldn’t try to get out of a 1-2 bid league? Yes, let’s **** on him, knowing the guy he’d be there supporting called out this whole fanbase for giving him the boot after having us in the postseason in 4 of his 6 years.

Been gone for 8 years. He’s been in the NCAA tournament 4 times, postseason 5 times. And y’all think I’m too dumb to be allowed to post on here?......

Five out of 6 of CMD's UAB teams would wipe the floor with any of Eshan's teams. Literally not in the same league.

RE: UAB Set to Retire Aaron Johnson’s Jersey
comparing Davis squads to Ehsan squads is dumb. we were in a better conference. its like comparing Bartows teams with Davis's teams..

Bartow's teams would have wiped the floor Davis teams...

Not if it was a tournament game

RE: UAB Set to Retire Aaron Johnson’s Jersey
One might realize that in college athletics you are pretty much only as strong as your conference.

Comparing Ehsan's skills and team with Anderson's or Davis' is pretty much pointless.

Given the conference that Anderson belonged to Ehsan might have recruited a tad better and had a chance at getting 1 of the 4 slots that the conference got in the tournament.

Or you could ask yourself how Davis, or Anderson would compete in Ehsan's conference? and vice versa.
