I also didn't realize he was from Eden NC.

Not saying he's the guy, but maybe worth talking to.

The more I hear about it the more I at least want the AD and Dept to contact him and setup a meeting if possible.

I would still be patient and contact Tony Shaver too. He's a proven guy vs another risk.

Not ready yet, although I like the Calapari connection.

It would be great if whoever we hire had a connection to Justus and could bring him in as an assistant. Though I'm not sure if anyone we'd be looking for would have a connection to him other than UNCW guys.

Shaver, Moton, Siddle plus a bunch of other up-and-comer assistants like 82 posted. That would be a great group to be looking at.

Justus is making way more as an assistant than we could pay him

I know I might rock the boat with many of our fans, but I'm not ready for Blizzard to be the HC. I'd love to have him on as a assistant or even top assistant perhaps for a more experienced coach.

The name left off that list that shouldn't be left off is Shaver. Now, having Shaver as HC and Blizz as an assistant... Looooooord yes please I could get down with some of that sauce.

I agree with you on Blizzard. I can't imagine a scenario where he's the HC next season.

It's such a terrible idea, I can't take you serious if you suggest it. Please, involve him in the program in some capacity, but he's not ready to be a HC and we can't afford to take that gamble given where the program is today.

Plus you have to think, why would he want to take a chance to ruin his legacy? I agree with you, he needs to get some experience before that would be an option anyways.

What if it was Mark Byington as HC with Justus (pay him as much coin as possible), Blizzard, Goldsberry and Coombs making up his staff?

I can't see Justus coming back as an assistant. Chris Flemmings is having a nice career in Europe so far.

I wasn't being serious. I would like to see UNCW create a family structure. One that creates loyalty among coaches and alumni, and is attractive to recruits. We don't need a full staff of UNCW guys, but if there are guys that are interested and qualified, I'm all for it. If we have two guys that are equally qualified for a position, whether HC or assistant, being an alum could be tiebreaker, but I'm not interested in those guys just for sentimental purposes.

I agree with you on that. One reason I like Siddle is because I think he'd bring back some familiar faces. However, if a more qualified candidate is interested he should get the job.

RE: Coaching speculation
I wasn’t being fully serious about all UNCW guys either.

But if 2 candidates are about equal and one is a UNCW guy, I’d go with him. Not being sentimental, just practical. We need a coach who will win here AND will stay a little bit. Say, 5 years. A UNCW guy might be more loyal to us than most.

Possible names I think he'd consider bringing on his staff with prior connections to UNCW:

Casey Stanley
Thomas Carr
Travis Hackert
Hunter Henderson
Craig Ponder
Ambrose Mosley
