RE: Drexel Women's Basketball 2019-2020
we were never really in the game today at bucknell. i forgot we took a lead early in the 3rd quarter. the offense seems like a mess right now. even greenberg doesn't seem like herself. they don't have anybody demanding the ball. we seem to struggle to get open looks from pretty much anywhere.

bucknell had a couple players willing to put the ball on the floor and drive to the basket. if they didn't get to the rim...they kicked out for open looks. we don't do anything that involves the paint area.

lots to fix but there's time. it will all come down to the conference tournament.

bucknell had superhero day. i saw it on their social media this morning so we stopped at walmart and got spiderman/wonder woman stuff. we got free tickets for dressing up and my son got to play some sort of tic tac toe game on the court at halftime. it was a good time.

After a tough game at Bucknell and a week off for finals, Dragons laying it all over LaSalle for school day at the DAC this afternoon.

After a dominant start by Drexel, LaSalle had a 11-0 run that ended at the beginning of the 3rd quarter to cut the score to 36-24. Then Drexel went on a 22-0 run to blow the game away. Drexel now leads 61-26 at the 4th quarter midway timeout.

There was a scare in the game at the end of the 1st half where Bailey turned her ankle. But she did walk it off and stayed in the game. She's sitting out the rest of the game and hopefully she'll get a few days of rest and be able to go against Penn on Friday.

69-31 final. Just missed the program record for point against which happened in 2000 against Hofstra when we gave up 30. A true domination. Nice bounceback after the disappointing loss to Bucknell

Dragons lost a tough one 53-49 to Penn at the Palestra today. They had a 4 point lead at halftime, got blown out in the 3rd quarter, fought their way back in the 4th quarter, but couldn't get the shots to fall that they needed at the end of the game. This was a missed opportunity to sweep their Big 5 opponents. Dragons are off for the holidays and have one more non-conference game at the DAC against Maine on the 30th.

Never good to take 19 shots more than your opponent, but lose. But it is promising we continue to get offensive boards and give ourselves chances.

Not a good start to CAA play. We went on the road to Charleston and lost by 14 while giving up 73. Defense certainly wasnt there as it has been. We looked like a distant 2nd place team to JMU, losing this one certainly doesnt look good for being a clear 2nd. Need to clean it up and find other options beyond Bailey.

I didn't see any of the game because I was at Drexel tonight. But that score was shocking. I assume that COC is much improved from previous years. They got off to a good start. Drexel started 0-2 last year with both losses at home and they rebounded to go 14-4. I'm sure they'll rebound from this like they always do.

You'll likely bounce back against us tomorrow, as we're not very good this year. We won an ugly one against Delaware on Friday night.

By beating you, they have more wins than last season, 8 to 7, with 1 non-Division I win each. The CAA is down from 10th in the Conference RPI last season to 15th this season. The CAA had 2 more losses than wins non-conference vs. Division I in both genders. In the last three complete seasons, the CAA had at least 12 more wins than losses non-conference vs. Division I in Women's Basketball. With a good postseason, the CAA could get above .500 this season, but not to 12 over.

I didn't see any of the game yesterday, but I was following on my phone. It appears that Drexel really fought their way out of a disastrous start of the season. They trailed by 15 late, but fought back to force overtime and managed to sneak past UNCW by 2. I didn't see either of these first two games to know what the heck's going on with this team. But they need to right the ship fast.

RE: Drexel Women's Basketball 2019-2020
Needing a 15 point comeback to beat UNCW is OT is quite alarming. I thought we were a clear #2 behind JMU. I am not so sure about that after going 1-1 on a road trip that should have ended 2-0. Neither of those teams were ones on my radar of concern. I still think JMU has a legit chance to run the table.

CAA as a whole looked strong to begin the year but definitely floundered through the OOC portion and dont look that strong.

RE: Drexel Women's Basketball 2019-2020
Good weekend for the WBB team as they swept the home weekend beating NU and Hofstra. They have now won 3 in a row, and with JMU losing to Towson, they are tied for first place with Elon.

Friday's night's game was insane as they outmusculed a very physical Northeastern team. Today the beat up on last place Hofstra who has a new coach and is going through a rebuilding phase.

One thing that's different from early in the season is that the offense is no longer running through Bailey. Friday, Bailey struggled from the floor and scored just 6 points, while forwards Leonard and Metzel stepped it up as the leading scorers with 13.

Today, Bailey scored 12, which is way below here season average, while 4 of her teammates also scored in double figures. They must figure that if they're going to make a run at a title this year, they can't rely on one player for scoring. Mariah Leonard, who really hasn't played much at Drexel has really stepped it up this year and has worked her way into the starting lineup. Kate Connolly has also stepped up and is getting more minutes and has shown to be a big 3 point threat for the Dragons.

Also interesting was that DU had 4 blocks today....2 by Nihill!

Denise has been saying this all year long and reiterated it after the non-conference. And she's right. Denise's issue and one of my concerns too, is the consistency. After Bailey its been a moving target of who steps up. This is ok, but hard for a team to find the hot hand if you have no idea who it is going to be on any given night.

Glad we are winning with Bailey struggling as that only bodes well for us later this season and into the future.

Column on Denise and Villanova Opening

Seems to me like Mike Jensen is just trying to fill space by suggesting something that would make sense without knowing all of the details. Denise signed a contract in 2016 to keep her at Drexel until 2023 and then in 2018 signed another multiyear extension. I'm not sure the details of the latest extension, but I would guess it would keep her at Drexel until 2025-2026. So it would likely cost Villanova A LOT of money to get Denise because they would have to pay Drexel to buy out her contract. Villanova has the money, but the question is would they want to overspend on women's basketball, when there might be a suitable replacement elsewhere who doesn't have to be bought out.

He doesnt need a lot of details. We all cringed when Harry announced this as his last. We have all assumed for years that was her next destination once he finally called it quits. We also all hope she stays. I think Denise has built enough assistants up over the years that one could take over mostly seamlessly, but it would still be a huge blow for our most successful coach. It is still hard to believe that that magical 2009 season is now a decade ago. I am still kicking myself that when they sent that team out to freaking new mexico, that I did not find a way to get out there, even as a student. I know the next time we dance (men or women), I certainly won't miss the opportunity.

While I did go see the MBB team play Temple in Landover, MD in 1994, I missed out on their other 2 NCAA Tournament games. I didn't go to Baltimore in 1995, because there was a student lottery, and my roommate didn't want to go try to enter. My senior year when the 27-3 Dragons got sent to New Mexico, we were told we could have tickets if we found our own way to New Mexico, but I balked at the price of airfare. Travelling was tougher then because the internet barely existed and there were no smartphones. That was 24 years ago, and there was no next time. I didn't even have a cell phone until I graduated. It happens. Someday, one of Drexel's teams WILL get back there.

Bracketology

For those who pay attention, the bracketology, which has little accuracy at this point, has us as a 12 seed against WVU in Bloomington. That would be awesome for me. However, it is interesting that they have JMU in the next 4 out. While they didnt beat anyone of note in the OOC they won, a lot. I still think they are much better than the rest of the CAA but it was fun to see us in the projection and how close their "expert" has JMU to the field. I do not actually believe any CAA team is actually close to an at large, at least not with how the tournament has selected historically.

it comes off to me as somebody is actually paying attention...which is rare when you're talking about media covering drexel. she would be the obvious choice provided the contract issues you brought up don't get in the way.

coaches seem to be able to leave all the time despite being under contract. joe brady at lsu signed an extension last week before leaving for the panthers this week. apparently there was an out clause for the nfl...so i guess this depends on how much coach dillon wanted to keep her options open in the contract.

as much as i don't want to see her go...it would be fun to see what she can do at a bigger school...even if it is villanova.
