Y’all keep discrediting William and Mary. In case you haven’t noticed, they are in first place in the CAA and have multiple pro prospects in their front court. Not only this, they lost transfers this off season to UNC and UCF. They have a freshman guard on this years team who was highly sought after from Europe as well. They have been recruiting at a high level. This isn’t Jeff Capel's William and Mary.

Maybe we can coax Tony Shaver out of retirement.

William & Mary is definitely a solid team this year. They have been better than ODU almost every season JJ has been coach. Considering admissions restrictions and budget limitations, this should be the exception and not the rule.

No, W&M has not been better almost every year.

I think the point is that they shouldn't be better than us, not that we have been losing to an inferior team.

William and Mary is probably the best team in the Commonwealth this season.

Easy there. For starters, Liberty is better than them. UVA and Tech would likely wipe the floor with them, and Richmond and VCU are AT LEAST on par with them.

I respect that opinion but I would take W&M all day over UR and VCU. And VT and UVA wouldn’t want to play them.

It is a hard sell to simply state that he wasn't good enough to play when nearly everyone else was positively awful.

Apparently Fields has grown significantly taller since he is now playing defense "at this level". Actually Radford may well be above us at this point. You just can't make this stuff up.

EDIT: One of ODU's better defensive guards - 5'-9" Duffy Samuels. I would much rather have a smaller point guard than have a smaller center and/or power forward like ODU has today. As long as the point guard can stay in front of his opponent he can force the outside shot. Being too short at center and power forward means that they all too often can't stop the opponent from taking the close in shot. Big difference.
Just for accuracy, Hunter played a few minutes midway through the second half.

Thanks. Yes, I see now that he played a total of 3 minutes. I'm sure he could have played more and not had any worse affect on the outcome than several others that played 20+ minutes. Oliver for example played 21 minutes, had 1 rebound and nothing else offensively speaking to show for his time. Green played nearly the whole game (36 minutes), had 1 assist, 2 points (1 for 12 shooting), and 5 rebounds. Between the two of them that's 57 minutes (28.5%) of the 200 minutes total the team played and producing a paltry 1 assist, 2 points, and 6 rebounds.

Maybe if the coaches just knew ahead of time that Green and Oliver were going to miss every shot we just wouldn’t of played them at all...

I just sent an email to ODAF requesting they invest in precognitive software so we can do exactly that.

He may be the next to transfer from JJ!

I'm not even sure how much Jeff actually cares that Green and Oliver "were going to miss every shot" even if he could have known that ahead of time as long as he could count on them to play his brand of defense better than someone on the bench would. They had a week to work out their offensive kinks and to game plan for how to attack Charlotte. The defense did a good enough job. Jeff is a defense first, defense second, and defense third coach and his year to year offensive woes show that. There is no indication that will change at ODU as long as Jeff is the coach.

Sadly enough the 47 points scored against Charlotte isn't even the low point thus far for ODU. Powerhouse William & Mary - a team ODU used to own and probably still should but doesn't - held them to 46. Other poor offensive games thus far have been 50 against Washington State, 53 against both Northern Iowa and George Mason, 55 against Illinois, 57 against VCU, and 58 against UAB. Not surprising that of those low scoring efforts only one game - UAB - resulted in a win for ODU.

Maybe at some point they don't need to be psychic or have to look at a crystal ball to predict that they are going to be poor offensively (again) and they will come up with a real solution to that problem instead of keeping the offense on the second shelf of concerns all the time.

No, W&M has not been better almost every year.

JJ's record against W&M is 2-5.

There is certainly a very strong case to be made based upon the head to head results versus the overall season records. If ODU was simply the better team in most seasons it seems they would have won the majority of the head to head meetings. I think the styles that each team plays factors into the head to head results and perhaps W & M's style is just a difficult match up for the style that Jeff plays.

Well, we flamed out in the CUSA tournament every year we lost to them. Although we made the finals and lost one of those years.
