Its a little shaky that Bass fires CB during the season, it looks very self serving at best. . If I am a coach thinking about taking the job here or even mildly interested that would be my first concern. Buyer beware and be sure you do your due diligence if Bass is still the AD. CB had some issues here and not all his own making but at the end of the day he is a coach hired to win games-tough business for sure.

Probably the right move, but that's a quick hook. Liked the Dodd and Phillips signings.

Please. Unless you thought things were going to turn around - and there was zero evidence that that was even close to happening - waiting to make a change would have served no purpose..

I bet you Rob Burke can do at least as good a job of courtside coaching as McGrath. Heck..I bet The Mullet could do at least as well also....

I tried coaching a long time and ago and its not something most people can handle even at the LL level ! I am pulling for Bass to get the axe-straight out fire his ass.

Well, my friend, if the highest paid employee at UNCW (Coach McGrath) couldn't coach the team I'm not sure that the problem is the guy who relieved him of his duties (Bass).

Bass made one great hire (Keatts) and one unfortunate hire (McGrath). Here's his chance to do the right thing again.

He also hired the womens coach? Not sure about that one.

Time will tell. She at least had a history of success.

For the record, I have always loved The Mullet...in the same way I loved Howard Cosell back in the day.

But for some strange reason he has been an apologist for McGath's lack of success, and been an antagonist toward Bass. Interesting...

Not a good to day to be a seahawk fan no matter how you slice it. I wish he could have turned a corner but it was obvious things weren’t heading the right direction. I feel bad for CB. This ones on Bass but I think he can make a hire that turns this around. I think 90% of us on these boards did not like the hire but we were ready to get behind him.

Yeah. Not shocked to be reading his whining here about McG getting the chop. He just has no facts to stand on though, because McG’s results were putrid, and that’s being kind. Due to not having any good reason to defend McG, he takes shots at Bass for taking a necessary step toward fixing the problem.

He was so overmatched.

Good luck on the new search. The CAA is much better with a good UNCW hoops program.

I am not an apologist for any coach that does not win-that is his job at the end of the day. I would have preferred they show at least a little class and let him finish the year. But instead he lets the guy do his show on Sunday and his Monday gig and then do it-he's a worthless POS. Its a done deal and they are not gonna win so why fire the guy now? As far as Bass goes I would trust a snake in the grass before that used car salesman.

Serious question. Can Burke win some games with this roster?

I thought the same thing.

I listened to the coach's show today and it was tough to tell if he knew it was coming considering McGrath always has a low key demeanor

I don't know... maybe when Estime comes back. If he even does now... I will say that I'm actually looking forward to going to Trask on Thursday. Win or loss, I don't have to worry about the possibility of suffering through another year of baffling coaching decisions.

They just played Saturday. I'm sure getting smoked by the other winless team in the CAA, along with an 11 game losing streak sealed the deal. The administration would have to meet on Monday to discuss finances, contracts, speak to Burke, etc. before they could make a decision.

You can’t be serious? Why do it now???

1. Because we’re likely not going to win another game this year if he was still calling the shots.

2. More time to identify the next HC. We can likely make the hire soon after the regular season ends, or just after the NCAAT, depending on who we’re going for.

3. That coach will have more time for recruiting.

This isn’t rocket science.

I think anytime you have a record like McG’s you have to almost expect that call to the boss’s office after each loss.

This couldn’t have been that much of a surprise. I’d even venture to say he had been warned continually losing would get to this point. I’d even venture that’s why he left his beloved M2M defense he spent two and a half years almost being so stubborn with, and all of a sudden he has a massive defensive change of heart just because? I doubt it. If he had made that change in year one or two and just retained the style of play we were so successful with, he’d likely still be the HC. Too little too late and by then he had lost the pieces that would have kept that system successful.

But, hey. Mullet has it all figured out. Jimmy Bass is obviously the problem. You know... that horrid AD that brought us a coach who won two outright CAA championships in three years.
