Eugene German
Eugene German is about to become NIU's all time leading scorer. He just passed Allen Rayhorn and Donnell Thomas during the Buffalo game and is within striking distance of TJ Lux.
Yet there doesn't seem to be much attention given to this remarkable feat. Maybe it is because he has not played on an NCAA team like Rayhorn, Thomas and Lux. I was fortunate enough to witness all three of those players at Chick Evans and the excitement surrounding their accomplishments.

German carried NIU to victory over Buffalo on Saturday and there wasn't much mentioned about his 26 points scored.

German is a generational talent that does not come around very often. His quickness, ability to drive the lane, finish with spectacular shots, and shooting threes is fun to watch. I am going to savor his senior season knowing that it may be a while before we see this type of player again in a huskie uniform.
It's one thing to see him play on TV but to watch in person is even better.

RE: Eugene German
I believe Dontel Highsmith was every bit as good or better than German but blew the knee out. I also believe Marshawn Wilson was as good as German but didn’t like school.

Yep, but dc, Growler's point was that he's about to become the leading scorer in the school's history. Let's, at the very least, give him that credit and not make this a what could have been thread.

Agree, he has been fun to watch. We don't get that kind of player very often. I think I read on here when he first started at NIU that he was a hard worker. It shows.

I was fortunate to see him in four games down here in Florida and he is the quickest I have ever seen to the basket. If you have not seen him in person you are missing something special. Last year in Dekalb, so go see him while you can.

GO HUSKIES!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I’m a fan. He’s had a lot of opportunities to leave but he stayed. It’s been a long time since NIU has had a 4 year starter.

German doesnt have quite enough dimensions to his game, but tremendous at what he does. That is my biggest credit to him also, sticking it out 4 years for a program that quite frankly few great players would stick with.

I always enjoyed seeing Billy "The Kid" Harris play the game. He and Larry Jackson were likely the best guard tandem to ever play for NIU.

Good for Geno and happy that he’s making a run at the all time list. Looking back one day hopefully he can take a lot away from his time at NIU.

Feel bad for the kid. One of the best players in program history who has worked his a*s off to get better and potentially play professionally. He has never had any help in his time here.

Can you imagine if Harris had a 3 point line to shoot from and four years of varsity play?
The Convo would be SRO with that Harris Bradley team!

Maybe Highsmith.....maybe. But not Wilson. Wilson was good but he simply was a terribly undisciplined player and didn't have the ability to beat guys off the dribble like German can.

German is a special talent that is being really overlooked or glossed over here for some reason in this comment.

RE: Eugene German
Marshawn Wilson was scoring just like German but he was stronger. No where the work ethic like Geno and when he started living and hanging with Porter he was done plus he didn’t want to do his school work.
