Youngest team in NCAA
We’re gonna have some growing pains. Said this from the get go. Just gonna happen. This team will be much better by March.

I sure hope so. After the last two games I hope we've hit our floor because the ceiling is looking a long way off.

No offense intended but the whole “will be much better by March” mantra seems thin to me. Won’t every team be much better by March?

Being as young as we are we have more room to grow. We aren’t gonna win it all this year. Wouldn’t have even with Wiseman. You just can’t replace experience.

To be honest, I'm not sure the staff has the road game thing figured out yet. This was a problem last year as well.

Aren't all good teams in the NCAA young?

RE: Youngest team in NCAA
Thank goodness for this thread. The team is still probably adjusting to the fact James isn't coming back, a ton of freshmen playing in their first conference games, and a flu bug hitting the team. Penny has beaten WSU before, he has won tough road games, and beaten a top 25 team.
The team is 12-3, and even in losses has cut deficits and seems to fight no matter what. Losing these two games shouldn't be a complete referendum of Coach Penny, his staff, or the players! We lost a game in single digits to a top 25 team on the road in a sold out arena. Take a deep breath, and don't forget to have fun along the ride!

Probably is the committee doesn't take "growing pains" into seeding consideration.

Young or not, Tyler Harris has shown no improvement from last year and that’s a problem. Lomax looks a little better, but they will both be served by developing some mid ranch game. Forget driving a la Ja Morant cause you ain’t jumping over people. Forget shooting 3s. Just develop a nice mid range game

Speaking of a nice mid-range game, we need to show these kids some videos of Phillip "Doom" Haynes from the early 80's. Now he had a great mid-range game. Nobody could, then or now, bank shots off the glass from 10 to 15 feet like he did.

It’s really bad. Outside shooting stinks as does our FT shooting. Boogie has been woefully disappointing.
I’m sure DJ is still not 100%, but if he’s not scoring (along with Precious) then this team is very average. We need him to be more assertive and take over.

The guard play is very average. Hope we can get someone hot.

They don't. But we aren't getting a top 3 seed. Once we get to 4-6ish, it doesn't really matter as much. IF we are peaking at the right time, we will be a tough out in the first 2 rounds regardless of seeding. As long as it's 6 or better, which I think it will be.

Offensively the guard play is average...
Defensively they have been very good. This is the best defensive team (still has some warts) since Cal left
Our guards are not the type of players you can ask to just go get a bucket...That is the type of offense we are currently running. Penny is going to put some structure in place on offense to put guys in position to take advantage of what they CAN do.

Wiseman would have carried this team to a Final Four trip, IMO. He was that good. He would have ruled the college game. It makes me sick to think about it. Not sure how he will do in the NBA.

I would agree with your point if not for the fact that Wiseman hasn't played in almost two months. If he had JUST stopped playing, I would probably agree with you, but the team now has had 12 games without him. This team without him still would have been the No. 4 recruiting class in the country - much better than nearly any class the other two coaches had brought in.
I'm wondering what happened with the disappearing act that has come from Lance Thomas. Wasn't he supposed to be competing for a starting spot?

Personally, I never bought into that. Reminded me too much of the past 'big man in practice killing it'... I cant even remember the names of the last handful of 'big man in practice killing it'....

I thought of this when IM missed a 12ft-er that he tried to swish. Nobody uses the glass anymore. You see it more on bad 3s these days (bbal in general, not just Memphis) than you do on 10-15ft-ers.

The bank shot retired with Tim Duncan.
As for the team I can't get down on them yet when looking the current factors. The only negative for me right now is TOs. The team, including Lomax, force too many bad passes.
