RE: WKU@UAB Game Thread
Taveon Hollingsworth came alive in the 2nd half. ended with 19pts.

it took our whole team to keep him throttled at all.

Anderson came alive as well in 2nd half.

Tavin had some RIDICULOUS DUNKS in the game. man is he an athlete.

Some observations:

1. Only five Golden Girls again (and not the same five). They're really good, but quantity has a quality all its own. Bring back the 16-member squad!

2. If WKU could hit wide-open shots and keep their mouths shut, we'd have been in trouble.

3. Sad night for the Doc Sadler Fan Club.

4. Tavin Lovan.

Classes begin Jan 13. The pre semester games are always poorly attended. Thanks be to the band and the other 10 students who came to the game. Most of the UAB students I knew back in my day lived in the Birmingham metro. I don't get it.

It was this way before fall semester ended. And the bowl game had eight, which should have been a special attraction for them.

The Golden Girls have represented UAB for four decades now, and they've been part of every great moment of the program. I hope we're not seeing disrespect of that tradition.

RE: WKU@UAB Game Thread
there are several, shall we say, "extenuating circumstances" that have resulted in the reduced number of Golden Girls this season. Maybe the participants need to be re-educated in the proud heritage they are expected to represent and the standards to which they are held.

Nice bounce back after a disappointing road trip. Lovan’s tomahawk was exciting.

I am shocked that we won. After reading blazer talk I was convinced we would not win a conference game. WKU must really suck

RE: WKU@UAB Game Thread
I am so glad we beat WKU.
We need to compete with that program in CUSA.
Going forward, we dont need to take SOME open shots.
A head fake may get defender off his feet and open the court.
A desperation 3 near end of shot clock is better than a desperation 3 any other time.

Not making excuses for WKU but there were playing with a severely depleted roster and still manage to stay in the game. If not for the 2nd technical foul on WKU things may have turned out differently because the momentum had swung their way.

That said, it was a much needed win for UAB. Nice to see the Blazers hit FT's last night because it kept WKU at bay when it seemed they were about to take the lead.

The team still can't shoot from the outside and turnovers are still an issue because our ball handling skills aren't the best. Enjoy the win but still a lot of work to be done.

As the game went on it seemed WKU was counting on full court pressure/traps defensively and sending (a poor FT-shooting) UAB to the foul line to keep them in the game and allow them to win at the end. When UAB hit its FTs WKU was done...

WKU came into the game as the top offense, but next to last defensively...

RE: WKU@UAB Game Thread
my observations...

1 - We need to keep working hard how to break the press. we struggled again dribbling over to the sideline and getting double-teamed with a sideline like a third defender.

2- Our bigs need to be better coached at not bringing the ball down to waist high in the post. we get stripped most of the time and it costs points and doesn't draw any shooting fouls. Pearson, Butler, Nicholson and Gueye were all stripped in the lane on first attempts or offensive rebounds. they need to come out of the game when they mess up like this or get reprimanded or something.

3- I was happy to see in person some of our set plays on inbound plays from the sideline. that was very nice to see and we converted more times than not.

4- Announced attendance was 2385. That was definitely inflated. Hardly any students and some of the booster sections were empty. Not many people saw the game in person which is a shame. 2hrs of fast paced action.

5- I like the band covering for the students with spirited playing and coordinated chants.

6 - I really really like Benjamin. Has the heart of a 6'8" big in the 5'10" body. He dribbles too deep and gets swatted or turns it over in the half court way too much. they need to coach him to not do this.

7 - I'm disgusted with losing but winning last night was great. I love watching UAB basketball.

They didn’t have Bassey and we didn’t have Bryant.

Solid win any way you slice it and a good coaching job.

Anything short of NCAAs is unacceptable at this point.

So far, 10-6 .625 win%

I just don't see us winning the CUSA tournament to propel us to the NCAA tourney this year. we are good on defense but can't score. All it takes is one team in CUSA tourney to light it up shooting and we are screwed. Can't compete in a shootout game.

I guess they need to get the moving boxes ready and some shipping tape.

As always, I hope I'm dead wrong.

I agree it's a tall order but I think we probably have as good a chance as anybody in CUSA. This league is pretty equally ******. There's no one team that's clearly better.

Ehsan still has a chance. Not a great one but IMO a narrow path is there.
