No assumption is safe.

The max they can expect is $3M per team except $5M for Boise...

Remains to be seen whether ESPN is involved with Boise, but I suspect Fox got the Boise home package.

If so, ESPN is left with 16 Saturday time slots & 4 Friday time slots open on ESPN2 and ESPNU, most in the final window of the day.

Meanwhile, the American is left with the "chore" of replacing UConn in football if title game deregulation is not passed.

Finally, there appears to be a move afoot to increase the playoff to 8 teams in a few years. If it includes a guaranteed G5 spot, the race is on to improve your conference in football.

Now, ESPN would surely rather more Pac 12 content for those late windows than helping the American orchestrate a raid on Fox's new MWC property.

But I can easily see a scenario where the American takes 1-3 MWC schools and moves to a 12/14-team league with inventory available for ESPN in all time slots.

My guess is that ESPN retains Boise State's home games and may bid on Hawaii's home inventory.

ESPN could actually SAVE a bit of money by paying only Boise State and Hawaii for their aggregate 12-13 games of home inventory, even if they paid each $5M+ per year.

Then, ESPN would have everything it needs for the 10pm ET timeslot for ESPN and ESPN2 with Boise, Hawaii, BYU and 1/2 of the PAC 12 inventory.

Hawai'i is 5 hours behind the east coast during "standard" time and 6 hours behind during "daylight" time, and they typically start home football games at 6 pm Hawai'i time. ESPN isn't going to pay significant money for those games unless ESPN gets control over the start times. Not sure Hawai'i wants to hand ESPN the right to make their home games start a few hours or several hours earlier.

ESPN needs inventory for the 10/10:30pm ET time slot. That's 4/4:30pm Hawaii time. That's a great time for a local kickoff.

This year, Hawaii had 4 home games kickoff at 10:30pm or 11pm ET (or 4:30pm/5pm local).

An occasional 1pm local kickoff would mean a broadcast for the East Coast prime time. I doubt Hawaii would object to the money or the exposure.

And, I note that over the next 6 seasons, Hawaii hosts:
UCLA, Oregon, Arizona, Vanderbilt, Boise State (x2), and BYU...

Well the $10M w/ GOR may have been the initial offer from ESPN. I'm sure the schools wanted nothing to do with a GOR.

It would make sense for ESPN to pay less for the games if there is no GOR. This is how we ended up $7M.

May have been. My point was you can't take what leaked out from SBJ as the final number for the MWC. Likely substantially lower.

big nugget here-
Boise State, which receives more money from the deals than other MWC schools, will play its home games on Fox.(I'm assuming most will be FS1)

I feel like CUSA tried a similar deal when they left ESPN though there was no OTA component. Good luck to MWC. Getting more OTA games is a big win. Boise home games appear destined for OTA Fox which is a huge win for the Broncos

If those are Saturday and not Friday night, they may be looking for Big 10/Big 12 or Pac 12 content to pair it with.

I would assume the OTA games will be on Saturday; I'm not aware of any network showing regular-season games OTA on Friday night.

First obvious candidate for an OTA game is Florida State at Boise State on Sept. 19.

I think it almost has to be on Saturday. Fox shows WWE on Friday nights now.

I'm talking about the 3 CBS OTA. There are 10 Friday night games. Those will probably be FS1 or CBSSN.

Overall, not AAC level but definately number two in the G5. Especially with their time zones, I think they got more than I was expecting. Especially after a disaterous first six years of the CFP.
