RE: UAB
God we shoot the ball horrendously. With that being said, our ball movement and tempo looks soo much better. But how many layups and dunks and short 5 footers can u miss? I think a lot of that is just toughness. We gotta be more tough minded around the basket. Being tough applies to offense just like it does defense and rebounding. Nice to see Kalu playing well. Same for Joe Reece. It’s not gonna be pretty, but I can get behind and root for a team that plays with that effort. Glad to see the guys playing together and getting a few wins here at home in front of the fans.

Kalu is becoming a beast, especially since he's stopped fouling.

It shocked me when I realized that he didn't pick up his first foul until the final minute.

And he was definitely in there mixing it up all night long.

RE: UAB
UAB has an athletic and scrappy team, which is their MO. Nice team win with four in double digits, for a tough win. I was worried at the beginning of the game when the refs were letting them play. Thought they did a good job, but that blocking foul called on us late in the game was BS.

RE: UAB
Glad for the win and plenty to take away, but man oh man this offense sucks. JJ even said in the post game interview how pleased he was with the D and the Offense" was just gravy". Sums it all up in a nutshell.

Joe Reece looks like he could be a real stud. I don't think he's even begun to scratch the surface.

What's with Greene short arming so many shots??

RE: UAB
I was up in box half watching NFL but IMO:

That is the Kalu I expect. Beast.
Green just doesnt take good shots
Wade shouldnt shoot 3s.
Alvis only played ok
Reece was decent

Thought it was a good win considering Oliver, Wade, and Green shot so badly. Refs made some terrible calls down the strect that helped UAB get back in it. I thought Jones got a T.

Gritty win tonight - left feeling satisfied. This team may be able to hunt w/the addition of AJ (taking pressure off of X). And ‘78 has the hot hand.

RE: UAB
The FT shooting of UAB took some pressure off us, 5 of 15 (33%). That just kill their mo. They get the call but couldn't hit the FTs.

They had him on the stationary bike for much of the 2nd half. They also let him take the free throw on the play that he got injured.

Hopefully those are good signs.

Was keeping an eye on him. He was on the bike but showed signs of pain. Probably fine by Charlotte but UAB def put a hurting on us physically. AC was limping and Oliver was holding his lower back in the final minutes too. Making pod 1 for tournament will be a big deal.

Not a single word about tonight's home game against UAB. Nice articles about todays UVA/VT game (of course)... there's even articles about today's Hampton University and Norfolk State games, but not a mention of the f'n HOME TOWN TEAM's game!
I guess the take over of the Pilot by the Daily Press is complete. I guess it's time to cancel my subscription.

That's more a reflection on the Virginia Pilot than ODU. Since ownership of the paper changed hands, it has sunk to an even lower level of quality than under the previous owners. I'm a subscriber and read it daily. There's rarely anything in it worth reading.
Sad.

RE: UAB
I still can't decide whether last night was a game ODU could have won by 10+ but didn't or a game UAB could of won by 10 and didn't.

The positives:
Kalu seems unchained in the new system and plying like we all hoped for 2020. Coming off the bench is still wise as early foul trouble likely dooms ODU.

Curry is evolving into a play-first PG. I don't know how high his ceiling is, but PG play is less of a liability than in November.

Oliver gives us a second versatile offensive threat, though I thought he looked a little leg-weary the final 8 mins.

Jury out:
Reese and Pilavios made positive contributions vs UAB, but were little more than minute-eaters vs MTSU. They're going to get minutes so more consistent production matters.

Green struggles as the alternate PG. He overthinks, sometimes hesitates and lets mistakes haunt him. He was thrust into the role and needs to realize that he can't carry the team himself and just find a level of comfort being just a very good player.

Negatives:
We still miss too many open looks and still get bogged down to often into forced late-shot clock attempts.

We have very little margin inside. ODU can't even afford foul trouble, much less an ankle or injury inside.
