FloHoops Subs
Well, we are in to 2020, and conference play has started. I am curious: has anyone subscribed to FloHoops? Has anyone taken advantage of their $100 voucher as a season ticket holder?

RE: FloHoops Subs
I did subscribe and take advantage of the vouchers. I figured that since I go to some women's game but don't have a women's season ticket, I would use the vouchers for women's games. I've used 2 of my vouchers so far.

I'm always reluctant to subscribe to these streaming services, because every sport's league that I watch has a different service, and I'm like, where does it end? But since I do watch a lot of Drexel games for both men and women and watch other CAA games, I figured that I didn't have a choice but to subscribe.

RE: FloHoops Subs
Honestly I am moving in the other direction. I am not an alum.. I have zero interest in women's basketball. I am a fan of the men's team. I've been a season ticket holder for five years now. I regularly traveled to watch the team on the road and I would say I was able to watch roughly 90% of Drexel's men's games since I moved to the area at the end of 2012.

At this point with the school and the CAA making it more difficult to follow my team, I am giving serious consideration to giving up my season tickets and investing that money elsewhere, most likely in a Phillies package. We will see.

If you haven't subscribed yet, I would recommend waiting until maybe next Saturday for the next Drexel game that's only on FLO. Then just subscribe for 2 months, which I think brings you to the end of the CAA Tournament. It would only set you back about $25, as opposed to $80 for the full season. I'm surprised that you'd be willing to give up your season tickets as the team is showing improvement after making such a huge commitment following the team during the team's darkest years.

I give the school I've $500 a year for my seats and parking permits. That I plenty. I am not going to pay them for content that was free last year and the same quality as the free content.

RE: FloHoops Subs
I subscribe. I went for the yearly subscription because I'll watch other stuff - mainly FloBikes and FloTrack in the other months.

To me it has been well worth the money. Living far away, I don't have the option of attending any games, so it makes the majority of Drexel games available. I watch most other CAA as well. I've also been watching Frantz Massenat and Frank Elegar play in the EuroCup as well.

Another advantage of FloHoops, is that replays are always available and pretty much immediately after a game. This was not always the case on Stretch - especially for Drexel's channel the past few years. My kids are involved in school sports so there are often cases where I can't watch live.

The one thing I miss this year is the lack of pre/post-game interviews with Spiker. I'm not sure if this is related to Flo or not. They sometimes post video of the press conferences at home, but that is somewhat hit and miss as well.

Post games are usually posted to the Men's BB Facebook page.

I paid starting in November. In addition to Men's Basketball, I watched Hofstra win the Women's Soccer Tournament, and I watched a tiny bit of Football. Replays are available without seeing the score, albeit the length of the replay can tell you that a game went overtime. Somebody complained about ESPN Plus that you can watch replays without seeing the score, but you have to see a picture of a player that tells you which team won.

Without paying for Flo, they provide some free highlights on YouTube. Flo made a video of Elon making 19 threes in a game. I don't know if Elon posted video of that before Flo did, but I'm not going to subscribe to YouTube channels of teams other than Hofstra, so I like that Flo posted that. https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCjfcsyE...9ng/videos is FloHoops' YouTube channel. It's not entirely for the CAA, but the last nine and 20 of the 30 videos from this season are about the CAA.

today - someone who has donated hours upon hours providing free coverage of drexel basketball is about to leave

former dac packers are next. then the ppl that have been ST holders for 20+ years

In 2025 there will only be 5 people at games...the ad and the 4 people he has convinced hes doing his job well

I would go to Towson Thursday but it’s at 6 instead of 7. I will lose this discussion since tv always wins but these subtle schedule changes make it hard to follow the team from a distance. JV high school basketball plays at 6.

It’s like being back in the aughts, searching for streams on sketchy websites. My TV was the StatBroadcast page on Friday night. Was oddly nostalgic.

Yep. That's a lost argument. Conferences like the AAC/A10/Big East play their conference games at odd times all of the time in order to squeak in as many games on national TV as possible. At least this game is on cable TV so that non-subscribers can watch, and get a high quality broadcast.

I have not subscribed and I lose out on ability to see games since I am from afar as well. I stream tv and have upgraded packages and yet CBSSN is not available so every time we have a "nationally televised" game, I still dont have access to it. Surprisingly, even 3rd party sketchy sites have not been showing Flo games, so access has been even more limited. So I certainly have not been a fan of this change, but I knew that upfront. I just assumed they would be available on the sketchy sites, instead they have been pretty inaccessible. Heck, the UNCW game we didnt even have an audio feed, so I had to listen to our opponents audio feed to have anything.

Now that most of the home games are on NBCSP, Drexel has eliminated the audio feed for those televised games so that the announcers can provide a more television like broadcast. Makes sense that they wouldn't want a telecast with full detailed play by play, while at the same time, if you were listening to a TV audio feed, you'd have a hard time following the action.

I know that it doesn't help people outside of the area, but we all have to give Drexel credit for making 9 of their home games available for free to the regional TV viewers. Drexel only has 1/10th of a say in what the CAA does. They did their part to counteract the CAA's terrible TV situation.

RE: FloHoops Subs
Drexel did what the conference expected the schools to do, which was reinvest the Flo money into local tv deals. Other schools appear to be pocketing the money. For Drexel, it is a step in the right direction. I do not know how visible NBCSN-Philly is, even in Philly. ESPN 3 or another platform like the old TCN8 or whatever it was, seem like a better opportunity for visibility than does NBCSN-Philly.

But yes folks like me who are out of network/the area should not be the focus for a school like Drexel. It is just frustrating for those folks, as we dont get video or audio for games any more, so from our perspective it has drastically gotten worse even if Drexel is doing the right things from the situation they were put in

Unlike other major cities, Philadelphia only has one RSN, with 2 channels. NBCSP (NBCSP+) is the home of the Phillies/Flyers/Sixers. It's the main go to network for all local sports fans and is where you want to be if you want exposure. I've had many people over the years tell me about the Drexel game that they watched because it was on that network. Thousands of casual fans are tuning in even if they don't care about Drexel. My daughter last year told me that she was at the restaurant an an indoor amusement park while I was at a Drexel game and she said that the game was on the big screen at the restaurant. So yes. It's critical that Drexel gets as much exposure on these.
channels as possible.

The old Comcast Network you mentioned is now NBCSN+. ESPN3 isn't much for exposure because it's still streaming. Sports fans still use the traditional TV unless it's a sport that they have a major interest in. Bars and restaurants aren't going to show events from ESPN3, but they do from NBCSN.

It is good to know that basically NBCSN-Philly is the main one, so that is a positive then. Back the TCN was the home for the flyers, so we would get bumped for those games or tape delayed. So kudos for doing so. For those out of network its very frustrating not even having radio, which prior was always available for road games, even televised ones, I do believe.

Yeah, it used to be Comcast SportsNet and The Comcast Network and they were re-branded into NBC Sports Philadelphia and NBC Sports Philadelphia Plus after Comcast bought NBC. Nothing really has changed though. If the Sixers and Flyers were both playing at the same time, then Drexel would get bumped, just like they would now.

The real shame of all of this is that the CAA wasn't able to keep their regional sports network deal with Comcast/NBC. There is a Comcast/NBC Sports affiliate in just about every major city on the east coast where CAA teams are located. I really liked it when there were 1 to 2 CAA games airing on weeknights and about 3 games airing on Saturday afternoons, with another women's game on Sunday. I thought that the CAA really got a lot of exposure there, and these Comcast/NBC RSN's have a lot of dead air time, so they were the perfect partner. It's a shame that D'Antonio screwed up that deal.

Why do you think there won't be radio for away games? They have for all the ones so far. And the upcoming games have links to listen on drexeldragons.com.

I get that it might be frustrating to not have the radio feed for the home games but at least for some of the schools there is the option to listen to the away feed. And though you might not like it since it used to be free, you do have the option to get the video feed to all home and away games every month for less than the price of the ticket to a single home game - so it is not like they are unavailable.
