JMU went 6-4 against D-I in non-conference, but faced a fairly easy schedule (# 182 non-conference SOS). They dropped their first 2 CAA games against Hofstra and Northeastern.
Towson fell to 5-8 against D-I and 0-2 in league play after losing to both Northeastern and Hofstra.

I have one and only one thought on this game. Will McGrath employ a full court press the entire game, even if it gets beat a few times, or will he abandon ship at the first sign of trouble. If he abandons ship, IMO this year is done. It's our only chance to possibly turn this year around and compete for anything beyond a play in game. From past experience, we all know that the press can giveth, but it can also taketh away and allow us to go on runs to close gaps or extend leads.
Ok, make that two thoughts. Who is our "go to guy" at the end of the game when we have to get buckets? The Drexel game was won at the end by one Drexel player who took the shot on the last three posessions and UNCW didn't have that guy. Who ya' got?

I would’ve kept feeding Marten Linssen even though he was in foul trouble. He scored almost every time we fed him the ball. Linssen also has the highest free throw percentage out of the starters which is another problem with this team, WE CANT SHOOT FREETHROWS. Sims is to streaky from the field as was shown last night.

We've been streaky on FT's, but we were 17-20 last night. I tend to agree on Linssen when we need points at the end of the game. We really need a guard though. One who can run the clock down then finish. The only problem with Linssen is he needs a guard to make the pass. If they know he's the guy, it's easy to anticipate and stop the entry pass. Phillips is the one I trust the most at the end as a guard.

Phillips will be that guy one day but it’s tough as a true freshman. Baptism by fire will help him get there sooner however. Most of the guys carrying teams are seniors in our league.

So who's the guy right now?

Going to have to see 82 but I do like Phillips a lot. Okauru is starting to get more confident so he’s another option as well. Sims should be an option and will hopefully get his mojo back soon. Ty would be a big help if healthy.

Yeah, that's criminal. Pay all that money for Flo and they don't even provide the first few CAA matchups.
Flo won't be around much longer.

Everyone keeps saying that but I’m not convinced that’s a problem solver.

RE: JMU (Thursday - 6:30); Towson (Saturday - 7 PM)
Gadsden is a really good player and would definitley help. We seem to have finally crossed the bridge on pressing the whole game, so if we keep that up we have a chance. A big problem we have is our offensive rotation. We pretty much pass the ball around the perimeter, which is easy to defend and easy to anticipate, which is why we have so many TO's that lead to easy baskets. It also gets us very few open three point attempts, which is where we a hurting now and where Gadsden is devastating. Even if he comes back, if we can't get better rotations we're not going to shoot or make many 3 pointers.
And even though we drive to the basket a lot more, we never use the collapsed defense to kick the ball out for an open 3.
We're just not good on offense with the exception of Linssen in the post.

We are 3 point dogs now with the over/under at 153.5. espn gives us 49.1% chance of winning.

Besides Gadsden being our best player, including 3pt shooting. He is another body we desperately need if are finally going to run a full press.

Don’t get me wrong. I’d love to have Gadsden back on the court. I just don’t see a drastic shift in results regardless. I do think we could win a few games though if we press the entirety.

Let’s look at it like this...If you’re losing games by 3 to 7 points and you got a guy that’s going to give you probably 10 to 15 points play some decent defense, that’s the difference in get wins and losses in some games.
I saw something the other day and thought about our team with the one coach saying that you can never be young in this business because it’s a killer.

3 point games, sure, Gadsden could definitely make the difference. But we haven't had one of those in a while. Our losses on our 7-game losing streak have been by 21, 18, 19, 9, 15, 14 and 5. Only the Drexel game could you say we might have beaten them with Gadsden in the rotation.
