Ok folks, conference play tips off Monday with one game (LaTech/USM), then full force on Thursday.

UTEP and WKU are the definite favorites heading into conference play. But this season strikes me as more wide open than the last several seasons.

My dark horse prediction for conference champ: La. Tech. This is the year that Konkol earns his chops.

Does anyone know why UTEP-FIU is being played early Thursday?

I thought it was so it could be the standalone “conference opener”.

Until I found out about Monday’s LaTech-USM game.

Anyway, being the day after New Year’s there will be more folks than usual off work, maybe even enjoying a holiday vacation in sunny Florida...

Yeah, sunny Florida is such a draw for residents of rainy El Paso.

This young Herd team is really putting it together now. Won 4 of last 5 and beat Duquesne by 22 on a neutral court to close out OOC.

Taylor is a huge difference maker, and motor on offense.

I can't wait to see what we can do in cusa play. I believe we go 2-0 vs our texas foes this week however.

Charlotte will probably beat UAB and lose to MT.

La. Tech by far is favorite....WKU and UTEP have a lot of issues along with a bunch of other teams......Its wide open after La. Tech...I mean UTEP just lost its starting PG....WKU has too many issues to list right now mainly being this is worst defensive team I have watched in a long time....It was bad when Bassey was playing but now without him its even worse..

I agree that La Tech is the favorite. As far as UTEP I’m glad we survived ooc at 9-4 and with the second best net rating in the conference despite all the internal drama going on with the players. As far as losing our pg I think that could be a boost to the team. We weren’t exactly lighting the court on fire with his 6ppg. His backup is averaging 4ppg in half the minutes. I’m optimistic that now the team will begin to gel and develop chemistry. We will still lose games we probably shouldn’t but this team will remain a contender all the way until pod play. There’s too much individual talent to write them off.

FIU vs UTEP game has been moved to 8pm ET. Strange.

Not sure we can pull it off against Tech. Going to be a season of ups and downs for us....mostly down....

North Texas needs to go at least 1-1 on the road this week to avoid putting me in a depressing hole to start conference play. I will happily take a loss at Marshall if we can somehow beat Western on ESPNU on Thursday.

We might win a conference game this year. Maybe two.

No wonder we can't get a good broadcast deal. 1st conference game and the broadcast is broken.
