RE: National Championship JMU Versus NDSU January 11, 2020
I was there in 2016 but not 2017, in 2016 I remember they just did a wand and no pat down or anything. Anyone remember if that was still the case in 2017, or any NDSU fans on here that went last year(and who aren't anti-fun) remember if that was the case then? I'll definitely bring lots of streamers, just trying to think what will be the best approach for my usual cold game outfit.

As far as predictions, I'm going with 20-13 Dukes and Lance finally throws his first interception dealing with our pass rush all day.

I recall a quick scan with the wand and bag check in 2017. There is a clear bag policy in effect, and they *might* add a metal detector, but doubt there will be full patdowns in most cases, just too many people to do that compared to the staff on hand without an insane wait to get inside.

Haha, as much as I like the ideas on streamers I was more referring to them essentially prohibiting actual tailgating by limiting it to 2 hours prior to kickoff. Seems pretty clear they just want you to show up and go inside to your seats.

Do they really limit it? I seem to recall some people getting in much earlier than that, though we weren't there that early ourselves. Feel like there is an "official" entry time, and an unofficial way to enter sooner.

I expect another defensive battle, a la 2018, with a similar score (17-13), only in our favor this time.

The one guy who concerns me is Christian Watson. That dude is as fast as Polk. In fact, Cig should consider putting Polk on him. He was outrunning MSU defenders by a mile on fly routes yesterday. Dangerous weapon.

I’m telling you it used to be 7am and the NDSU fans all show up at 5am and they just open the lot. Not sure about an RV-specific lot, but there were definitely RVs in the main fan lot across the street.

That sounds about right, thanks. I'm pretty certain people showing up at the lots before the official time will be able to setup tailgating more than 2 hours ahead of time. Prime spots will all be gone by 2 hours ahead.

Sounds pretty to accurate. I have no source only the experience of the two years we went in 2016 and 2017 being in our parking spot by 615.

In the past, it was officially 7am. Interested to see what’s official. But please trust the police WILL open them up early for the people who don’t know how to pronounce the word bison.

I honestly feel confident about this game. I know many of you feel confident about every game and feel that NDSU on a string of 35 consecutive wins, including I think 7 of 8 NCs, isn't that great. Yeah right... 03-lmfao

But I think NDSU is that great, but I think we can go toe to toe and could be a hair better. It certainly seems we've improved more through the year.

I think our advantage is likely our receivers. I think both team have great offense lines, QBs, and running games. I'm not sure anyone can match our receivers in FCS.

When our defense has struggled it has been in coverage. They like to run. We like to stop the run. I think we have the advantage.

The key is to stick with Balance. If we take our receivers out of the game due to play calling, we eliminate what is the difference maker for us.

Usually you say the players on the field determine who wins the game. I think with a three year break and two new Head Coaches at the FCS NC coaching may be the difference maker.

For the majority of this season I would agree with that. However, our secondary has been really good lately. They had some really great plays breaking up the pass.

I agree that coaching may be the difference maker in this one. I'm not sold on Entz for them. I think the talent of his team has overshadowed his coaching. I think we match up with them when it comes to talent. I have a lot of confidence in Cignetti and this staff.
I expect to hear NDSU fans saying the same thing we said about the Elon game "We got out-coached."

RE: National Championship JMU Versus NDSU January 11, 2020
i like our chances and feel pretty good about winning.

but both teams are good and confident. You must play your best or you will lose. As we saw in 2017 where we made a season's worth of mistakes in 1 game.

I'm concerned that our running game has been solid, but not as dynamic the last few weeks against tough defenses. The numbers say Weber and UNI's running defenses are better than NDSU's the second half of the season, but we know that's not the case. The Bizzzzzzzon will be stout on the line. To me, this is the key to the game. If our OL can get some push on early downs to help us maintain an open playbook, i think we can put some points on the board. In the mid 20s, which should be enough for a win.

if we get behind on the down and distance because we are unable to run, that will be a problem. Weber blitzed often and gave us problems. Ben was scrambling for his life quite a bit and i don't think we want that. Any QB....Ben or otherwise....can be forced into bad mistakes under duress like that.

Having Palmer back is a huge X factor for us. First half, I'd start with Percy over Hamilton and let him be the workhorse. He seems to eek out an extra yard or two after contact more than Juwan which we'll need when yards will be at a premium. Wear them down the first half with this tandem, then unleash the beast in the 2nd half.

And be sure not to forget about either Polk or Riley. Seems it's either 1 or the other each week. I'd like to see them both get 5-6 catches in this game. Spread it around. Make sure the Bizzzzzzon are having to defend the whole field.

On defense, it's simple. Stop the run. Make Lance beat us. his numbers are good. But that's becasuee he's always playing from a position of strength (ie - a lead). Let's see how he does when behind or under duress from a great defense or under obvious passing game situations. I saw a decent QB in their playoff games, but far from a gunslinger. This seems like Stick in 2016. Stick never had to come from behind and "win" the game for the Bizzzzzzon until playing us. he failed in those circumstances.

I'm going with a familiar scoreline:

JMU 27
NDSU 17

We've not played a good QB lately. Even as a freshman, Trey Lance could be the best QB we have faced this year. He's run for over 1,000 yards, and has not thrown an interception all year. That is fricken amazing.........

Agree - Bison haven't really had a game they had to play from behind in this season. Other than SDSU and they were going against their backup QB. If we go up they will have to rally from behind. If they go up we have been there before and will enforce our will.

RE: National Championship JMU Versus NDSU January 11, 2020
The JMU offense has so many weapons. If you are an opposing coach which of the weapons do you try to take away? Just as they did in 2017, NDSU will be tackling the football on every play. The receivers need to be mindful of this. Stony Brook was quite successful with this strategy this year.

NDSU will try to possess the ball to shorten the game. That is their M O. They only pass to keep the defense honest. We have become much like them in recent years. I think JMU as a program has more depth. It showed on special teams last time as Amos had a big day. Without the three turnovers and nine dropped passes, JMU would have won going away in 2017. NDSU will play mistake free football. Weber did so Saturday while we had 70+ yards of penalties.

If JMU plays their game without turnovers and penalties, they will win comfortably as they have done the last two weeks. If they show up unprepared and make mistakes, NDSU will roll once again.

I agree. Cig is ten times the coach Entz is.

I believe there are two keys to the game.

1. Pressure on the quarterback. A must have. You all know that I have been harping on this all season. Teams can't run on us, so they have to pass to have a chance. NDSU's O-line has been giving their young quarterback an hour to find open receivers. If we can get pressure on Trey Lance, he will find himself in uncharted waters, leading to mistakes, sacks, incompletions.

2. Our pass coverage. If NDSU is going to win this game, they are going to have to do it in the air. I trust our d-backs will cover well. The one guy I am worried about is Christian Watson. He can fly. He was outrunning MSU defenders by a mile on fly routes Saturday leading to wide-open opportunities. We must watch for him on end-arounds and reverses, also. He touched the ball five times against MSU for 174 yards. Two of those touches went for 70- and 75-yard touchdowns. Big play guy! He led all rushers with 86 yards and all receivers with 88. Only a sophomore, he will play on Sundays.

What is weird is that Watson appears to have just been discovered. It looks like he was a relatively unknown quantity before MSU, even though he had over 600 receiving yards prior to that game. But, only 5 touchdowns? That's about one every three games for a legit home run threat every play.

Our offense is going to do its thing. NDSU is not the defensive threat they used to be. I originally predicted 17-13, Dukes. I think it will be a higher scoring game than that. Dawgs win, 27-20!

Pressure Lance and contain Watson and we win!
