RE: Godwin transfers
I am afraid the basketball program needs the same reboot as we just did with football.

That would be an overreaction. There are some talented young players on the roster. They will get better over time. This opens up 2 schollys that we can better use.

Dickens was a no brainer (cant turn down a 4 star big man that wants to transfer here), but it just didn't work out. On or off the court.

You can't be perfect in selecting players. Some would rather make excuses and jump ship.

This seems like a dumb question. But soon as they enter the transfer pool like that they're off the team?

I don't think so. I recall Randy Haynes entered the portal but wound up staying.

RE: Godwin transfers
Brutal. Transfers happen, but its very unusual to lose two starters to transfer this early in the season. JJ has clearly lost his team.

Could be just that Coach. But what do I know. Maybe Jones went to them and said, guys, it just ain't working out and you should look elsewhere.

No...it's completely possible this is 100% the other direction.

Yes.

Not saying you’re wrong but he doesn’t appear to be in the portal and nobody’s reporting it yet

OK then. I googled and came up with nothing, looked at the transfer lists that had Godwin and nothing. Wasn't trying to say anything, I just hadn't seen confirmation is all.

RE: Godwin transfers
Miller's story quotes Jones as saying he was informed by Compliance that Dickens entered his name and that Dickens hasn't said anything to the staff.

That's....kinda crappy.

I think that this may be closer to the truth.

Dickens and Godwin were involved in a curfew incident.
Both had high expectations, never realized by Godwin, and Dickens seemed to have actually regressed.
I wish all the best for the young men, but I believe that this is a positive for the program.

There are bigger issues. There needs to be an entirely new style of play. Watching ODU basketball is too often excruciating. We need to develop an entertaining brand of basketball or we will never progress.

Highly doubt the curfew incident had anything to do with this. If it was that serious they wouldn't have both played significant minutes against Richmond. Only caveat is if something about that night unknown on Wednesday came out later. Perhaps they did something stupid and got ratted out? Just a guess, but my sense is that in incident that cost you about 2 minutes of playing time one game doesn't get you shown the door. There is more to it. We may never know and probably shouldn't know.

I agree (somewhat). This is JJ's problem and he has earned the right to attempt to fix it. Not time for a reboot yet. 2 years of this and we can talk. I don't like the way he manages his rosters or succession plans, but it has worked moderately well thus far (until this year). I guess he will have no choice but to order a box of Band-Aids (transfer portal) cause we don't have jack otherwise.

New style of play doesn't equal wins.

I have no problem with people that do not enjoy intricacies of the game and just want to see points, but that doesn't mean it will equal a better team and maybe not even better attendance.

The team is young right now and struggling. Clearly a rebuilding year. They will be back soon.

JJ lost it,when he got here. His team has been transfers in and transfers out. He is not a quality recruiter. His history of 20game wins per season, was only due to major transfers that lead the team. For a school like ODU we should recruit, at a higher level. better. Caver was the only freshman, that was quality. However Dr. Selig give JJ a nice raise and contract extension. I wonder if Dr. Selig realizes, we are in a weak league (for basketball) and also have add a cup cake schedule (OOC) this past years.
