App Coach to take Missouri Job
Eli Drinkwitz is leaving App State after one year. App will receive 1.7 million for buy out. Missouri is still on probation and scholarships will be reduced again this year. The second youngest P5 coach at 36 years old. I don’t know if this hurts are helps UAB.

To give you an App perspective, our players have been extremely vocal on Twitter with this news coming out. It’s sort of negative towards Drinkwitz and they are all quite aligned with each other that this team is about their brotherhood and not who is at the helm. So I suspect they will play with a chip on their shoulder.

I doubt that. I expect a closer game than what the media will probably predict. I suspect you guys are much better than the CUSA championship score reflected.

RE: App Coach to take Missouri Job
IIRC, this was Drinkwitz first and only year as App St. HC. They seem to have survived losing their last one just fine. I suspect that this will be a rallying point, not something that makes the team fall apart.

We are indeed a much better team than we showed against FAU. They were the best team in the conference this season to my eyes. We're a very young team, and did not deal with the pressure of a championship game well, for whatever reason. I have for years wanted to see UAB bowling in N'awlins, but I didn't want any part of y'all this season. We got you anyway. We'll see how it goes. I don't for a minute believe that this will be the cakewalk that many App fans seem to think it will be, but our offense has been spotty at best and a drag at worst. Thing is that they play the game on the field, and not on a message board, and funny thing happen out there.

We'll see.

Dirk leaving will have no negative effect on this game. App lost their coach a couple of years ago before their bowl game and ended up demolishing MTSU.

To clarify, that was last year.

Hopefully, Appalachian State will hire Shawn Clark as their HC before the New Orleans Bowl. The clash of the Clark! - lol

Anyone believe that Clark wasn't contacted about any of these in any way?
I don't.
I think the agent probably handled them.

With that said it will be interesting to see if Ingram decides to bump up the pay and incentives again.

Seems like Clark is turning these jobs down. That or schools are waiting to see how Clark can do when he begins filling in the roster with developed talent rather than relying on Transfers for depth.

UAB had three winning records between 1996 and 2014. Now they have three in three years. That speaks volumes to Clark's ability to lead through adversity. I was honestly surprised he wasn't the front runner for Arkansas or Mizzou considering the state of their programs. UNC hired Mack Brown simply as a function of righting the ship, I believe. I thought Mizzou and Arkansas should've been in the same situation.

RE: App Coach to take Missouri Job
Clark's agent told them not to waste their breath. He's been offered SEC DC jobs and interviewed for an SEC HC slot the last two seasons. He's here because he wants to be here, and he'll stay until he gets the proverbial offer too good to refuse. He's not going to take a bottom feeder P5 job for the fat contract. I fully expect him to be here at least through 2021 when the new stadium opens.

I don't know why he would. Let's look at this realistically. He got a raise and an extension last year. This year the performance was down from a year ago (from championship to runner-up). It doesn't appear that anyone is trying to hire Clark away. Why would we give a raise at this point?

Plus he got an incentive bonus for winning the West Division. I don't agree with your comment about the performance being less than last year. Clark did more with less this season and still manage to get this team to the CG so you could make the argument for him getting another bump in pay. But I don't think it would be necessary to do it.

Don't believe there will be any way Drink coaches in NOLA, he will be announced as Mizzou's coach tomorrow at like 10:45am.

Players seem pretty hurt by this and don't think they'd want him to coach anyway.

Drinkwitz in his Mizzou introductory press conference today said that their stated goal was to win the Sunbelt Conference.
