2021 commit, RHP, 94 mph.

Wow, could very well be in the 96 - 97 range by the time he show up at Reckling in 2 years.

In August he was 86-88....that’s a huge jump to 96-97.

It says 94 on his Perfect Game profile: https://www.perfectgame.org/Players/Play...?ID=483051

Whether that’s accurate or not, no idea... But they didn’t make up the number.

That's the source I was looking at. Maybe that's his top speed, not what he can throw consistently. Either way, he's a solid prospect who's fastball is still developing.

Agreed. Not disparaging him at all. That certainly wasn't my intention. He's definitely an intriguing prospect. Sometimes PG can juice the velo stats with balls that may or may not be exactly 5 ounces. I think the 86-88 is a more accurate picture and that's plenty fast for a kid who's developing.

Could one of you more informed folks give an "objective " rating of Bragga's recruits vs what he inherited?
Realize ultimately there is a bias in the ratings themselves

Freshman left handed hitter (looking at his tweets, he may pitch some too?). I don't recall many freshman recruits in the past for Rice, but I guess we're just catching up with how other programs are doing it these days.

Curious how you can project/recruit a player who has never played a HS game. Seems early for me and I know other schools do this. The summer select circuit is likely where they get their looks but even that is suspect at this age. It will be interesting to follow how many of these "early" recruits actually end up on the roster.

Cory Barton has certainly brought us into the modern-era of recruiting in terms of how early we are recruiting.

That's probably about where we want to sit. Anybody in the top 50 nationally is likely to go high enough in the draft to get a bonus he can't refuse,

Again, for what it’s worth, the Prep Baseball Report just came out with their 2023 rankings (meaning when they graduate high school) and they rank Rice commit, RJ Ruais, as the #8 overall player in Texas (meaning not the 8th best pitcher, but the 8th best player at any position)

PBR (Prep Baseball Report) just came out with their Texas high school class of 2021 rankings, and I see that Emmanuel Garza, a Rice commit from Rio Grande City, came in at #4 for catchers.

That's probably about where we want to sit. Anybody in the top 50 nationally is likely to go high enough in the draft to get a bonus he can't refuse,

Interestingly the MLPA and MLB agreed to give the MLB the right to limit the draft. MLB can limit the number of rounds all the way down to 5.

I would actually expect the teams wouldnt want to burn higher draft picks on high schoolers this year --- there is zero 'book' on them this year due to no games.

My guess is if MLB pares the draft to, say, 5-10 rounds, an amazing number of better high schoolers will be hitting the college ranks.

Further, baseball players wont lose this year of eligibility *and* the NCAA expanded the number of roster slots.

NCAA baseball will be thigh deep in decent talent next year.
