Ted is an ODU employee. Indeed he is Senior Associate Athletic Director for External Relations.
As such he he will never ask the tough questions.

That is a job for the media, like Bruce Rader.

Ok it might not be his job to ask tough questions but it is his job to make ODU look like a legit program and not cover it the same way a 3rd grader would. Basketball or football he comes off as a clown.

Ted is a part of public relations. He's not a journalist. If anything, we need him to be better about only being excited for ODUs successes. His excited reactions to our competition making plays is both confounding and annoying.

I am almost positive Cignetti was at NC State several years ago. I wonder if Huxtable and him are still friends. Just food for thought.

Im not in that business, but cant see why a search firm is so important. As BW said, there are only 130 of these jobs available world wide. Qualified candidates know when they are available. Why pay these firms money to give us the same list of names we could come up with here? And if its a dark horse, they'll apply with or without a committee.

Not necessarily a proponent of them but there are thousands of potential candidates. Its a ton of work to try and screen them. Our Athletic Staff doesnt have the time to so that level of due diligence and male a hire within 2 weeks.

Someone has to make sure the coach actually graduated from college :)

I am pretty confident this is being run by Drew Turner (former ODAF Staff) and his father. This is what they do. It is a value added function.

A guy in Ted's position isn't going to act much differently than Ted does, unfortunately. So not sure it matters who it is ultimately.

Harry Minium, as I mentioned to you, is a unique position in the athletic department. My biggest problem with him right now is he presents a tone deafness to the reality of the football program. There's a difference between exuding positivity/hope and presenting a false reality and insulting our intelligence.

My biggest issue is with the Virginian Pilot's coverage of the University's athletic program. No hard hitting questions are ever asked. No accountability demanded by the media. It's almost like they're afraid of losing access to the University. Does anyone really think ODU is in the position to turn media away? There's nothing to lose. I'm over the non-stop puff pieces.

I like Ted too. He can be a little hokey at times (e.g. "spheroid"), but I appreciate his enthusiasm. I also don't mind his excitement about opposing teams' good plays. I'm a fan of the sport, not just a fan of ODU. I'd rather have Ted than most of the clowns, zombies and Zoloft-Jockies at our peer schools.

You think people here are angry about losing to Liberty and Charlotte? When this guy played at Temple, they lost 900-0 to Hofstra. In their street clothes.

But he still works for the university. He has the credibility of a long-tenured and much-respected reporter, but he's no more or less a public-relations specialist than anyone else in their communications department. If Harry is pouring it on, he's almost certainly doing so not only with the school's blessing, but probably at their prodding. Just like Ted, anyone else in that position is going to give you much the same presentation, albeit at a lower quality.

I've not listened to many of the press conferences; is nobody really asking "tough questions" or are they not asking the questions that people here ask in the moments after a loss? Because even the most hardened reporters will still tread relatively carefully in the post-game, at least at first, because they need the quotes for their story and making the coach tilt over a loaded question won't get them where they need to be.

Bet you guys miss Molinaro right about now.

They certainly do ask tough questions but this also isn't the big city pro football market where reporters (and readers) care about why you didn't call timeout with 2:30 left in the game.

And reporters in this market were always going to side with Wilder as he treated them so nicely and he was so well liked. It's just a fact of life.

Especially when you hear how many others don't even have command of proper English. Ted is a treasure compared to many and I'd venture to say he is a top 3 color analyst amongst all of Virginia's higher ed football playing programs.
