RE: Boise State & Cotton Bowl
On a side note, those who were saying "A one loss Memphis will still get in over an undefeated Boise..." should recognize that inertia exists in polling.
Heck, Memphis is only two spots ahead of BSU right now, and if BSU hadn't dropped a game, they would likely be #12 or so with no way for Memphis to jump seven spots in the final week.

And they would not put a lot of thought into the process because that bowl only means something to g6 teams.

I disagree about the amount of thought. The G6 games are all about TV audience. Memphis is so exciting to watch right now that we would likely edge out Boise regardless.

Boise State & Cotton Bowl
There is no G6. There is either a P5 and a G5, or a P6 and a G4.

Crazy to think that we will go to the Cotton Bowl because of BYU.

Just using history and logic.
The CFP generally mirrors (give or take a spot for most of the top 25) the AP poll. In week 11 (the first CFP poll) BSU was #22. In the AP Poll they were #21.
In week 8 when Boise was 6-0, they were already #14 in the AP poll. Assuming simple attrition over the next three weeks, Boise would have likely been #10-12 so in the AP poll. And since the CFP generally mirrors the AP, it would be more likely than not that BS would have been no worse than #15 in the initial CFP poll.
Now, this evening, five more weeks will have elapsed since the initial poll. If BSU started at #15, again, attrition would get them three spots over the past five weeks.
So, actually, it's very likely that BSU would have been around #12 whilst being undefeated and Memphis would be sitting at #18 with no chance of jumping an undefeated BSU squad.

Boise State & Cotton Bowl
I feel like Boise State would have been jumped by teams with quality wins. I don’t think the committee wants any G5 within striking distance of the CFP.

RE: Boise State & Cotton Bowl
I got a feeling that if we beat Cincinatti, we'll move to between 14 and 12 in the polls so that our matchup in the Cotton Bowl will look like a closer match to who we play be it Baylor, Florida or Alabama. The promise of a close and exiting game sells tickets and advertising. Since Boise hasn't played a ranked team all year, much less beat one it would be a harder sell to move them that high in the polls. First we need to curb-stomp Cincinnati this Saturday and leave no doubt as to how good we are.

Huh?
Memphis moved up ONE spot this past week in the AP poll after beating UC.
In the CFP poll they have moved up three spots in 4 weeks. Yet, they are going to miraculously jump six spots in one week.
C'mon.

It is pretty discouraging to think of how that criminal call against Temple has affected us. If we kick the field goal and win, we are probably sitting in 10th between Alabama and Wisconsin. At that point, we possibly pass the loser of Oklahoma/Baylor, and Utah, if they lose to Oregon.
I think that our ceiling this week is 3 spots, with Minnesota, Oregon and possibly Wisconsin being in range. Realistically, we should pass Minnesota and be neck and neck with Oregon if they lose to Utah.

CFP has us at 18, and 18 - 3 = 15

Nah, but more importantly, no way a 1 loss Memphis team would be ahead of a 14-0 BSU team.
Everything depends upon poll rankings prior to the first CFP poll. BSU would have been 10-12 in the AP poll at the time of the 1st CFP release. So being #15 at the first release would mean simple attrition gets them a couple spots.

Where would an undefeated Memphis team rank compared to an undefeated Boise State team?
Since we're talking hypotheticals.
