Oh crap! I was mistaken and looked it up again. Jon Gilbert graciously extended his contract until January of 2022. So effectively he's still under contract for the next TWO seasons. That makes it even less likely that he will be fired this year. I can't see the athletic department taking on the burden of paying off 1 million in compensation to him. I even question if they would do it at 500k.

We got rid of Ellis at $2.1 million. One road game takes care of that. It should have been announced already.

Right, but that was driven by a 0-12 season that followed a 12-2 season. Different motivating factors at the moment.

What does that have to do with what I said. Schedule a "slay me" game with someone for $1mill + to make it up.

I emailed him when he announced the H&H with Troy urging consideration of a series with the Cajuns due to our long history, arguably more interest and that it really made more sense. Crickets.

I'm going to say this one time about emails from a fan base....

if you think he has time to deal with that bs, you might as well walk outside today and piss into the headwind...

the result will be the same...

I agree with you to some extent. However I have received a response from former AD's not that it gets anything accomplished other than to make me look like an idiot. lol

what he should be responding to is the volume (or lack thereof) en macro and issue a statement...

there's no questioning he has a staff member sifting through the bs and the internutz....

he's stymied behind the eight ball...

I don't envy his position right now...

Frankly, those should both be conference games at this point. The Belt is so much better a fit for us both geographically & culturally than what CUSA has turned into.

at this point, most have realized it's only a matter of time....

We were out coached in the WKU game and FAU team was more talented than us. We didn’t blow those games, we got our butts kicked.

I figure what’ll happen as part of the next round of realignment is the Sun Belt & CUSA schools will rearrange themselves into more travel-friendly groupings, either by swapping a handful of schools or even spinning off a 3rd league so you end up with one western/Texas-centric, one East Coast-based, and one central. All this driving by & flying over 3 other G5 schools in order to play a 4th is silly.

I say we beat the rush.

that's basically what I've pined about since '11....

the only question is how the flagships give the finga to the ncaa moving forward....

then it becomes how the leftovers realign...

with our budget and market, we're simply at the mercy of what will be the remaining chum...

our current 3 HCs are a joke...every program is currently worth zero on the nat'l value scale....our athletic budget is dogshite....

you don't need any degree or an abacus to calculate how that plays out for southern miss when it all goes down....

this isn't opinion.....those are the facts....it doesn't matter if one likes it or not....

We will hold onto Hopson through next year. He'll likely lose more than he wins. All the while recruiting, our reputation, and fan interest continue to fall. We have no magic bullets. Time to wipe the slate clean and start over. Remember the proud history but quit using it as a crutch. 1988 isn't walking through the door to save us. In the 2020s we are going to have to save ourselves.
