Led ECU to prominence, now has a top rated defense at Oklahoma. Most of all he is one hell of a recruiter. I guess you still think we will win 5 games based on performance against VT and UVA. Laughable.....
The Oklahoma defensive coordinator is Alex Grinch.....and their defense isn't even good.
And led ECU to prominence? They won 1 bowl game (went to 4) in 6 years with 1 10 win season.

Id be OK with bowl games in 2/3rds of our seasons. Yeah, I'd like to win more than 1 of 6 bowls, but going to them is sure nice. And ECU was in harder bowl games than CUSA has now.
Also had way more resources at ECU than he would here.

Money talks and bull**** walks. We have been doing FBS on the cheap....If you are not going to step up then go the hell back to FCS and put more money into Bball and other sports. While I agree that currently 22.5k is the right stadium size we even did that on the cheap.

Id be curious as to what those are. They have a much larger stadium, but otherwise, what more does ECU have? They're G5. we're G5. A couple million more in TV money helps I guess, but shouldn't be a game changer. If he can coach and recruit, he can coach and recruit. We have a lot of resources compared to CUSA too. Not saying they don't have more, just don't know what that is and how it would be a game changer.

who says...if thats the case we need to go back to FCS. We can't cheap out anymore. Our new stadium was done on the cheap. It is time to either step up or go back.

We are a 10 year old program. To think we have the same resources as teams that have been in business for 50 years is strange. More fans/alumni, bigger stadium, and most importantly more money. Rome was not built in a day. It takes time.

Well, unless there is money I don't know about (such as a wealthy donor pledging to fund a high salary), my opinion is that is probably the correct course of action going forward. That is why Wood needed to go. This needs independent assessment not desperation and confirmation bias.

ECU budgets $6.5 million on football. I couldn't find the ODU number, but did find ODU football brought in around $10.5 million in revenue in 2018. Doesnt sound like a huge difference other than media money and stadium size.

I am not sure that is true.
In 2018, ECU total athletic revenue (66th of 230) was $46,861,190, with expenses of 47,410,809
ODU revenue was $44,271,033 (71st of 230) with expenses of $45,189,213.
https://sports.usatoday.com/ncaa/finances/
I am not convinced that 66th to 71st constitutes "way more"

Weren't you advocating keeping Bobby with a pay cut to save money over the weekend?

thanks!
I went ahead and did it for them. They need to just pay the $3 to VPilot.
Thanks I saw from my phone or I would have done it myself. I've tried stuff like that on a phone before and really jacked threads up. =]

Not advocating just stating what I thought was going to happen. It would have been interesting to see if Bobby had not resigned what would have happened. I was fine either way. We are now in for a 4/5 year rebuild process. Plus the $ value just went up. lets see how serious ODAF / ODU really is about football.

Hey, at least I correctly cited my sources in APA format!

What do y'all think about Zohn Burden potentially returning to ODU as the new HC?

I don't agree with alot of what you say, but in this case I definitely do. I'm not sure that he has the connections to fill out a staff like Ruffin or Beamer (Thanks to his dad) does.

You all are looking at this the wrong way. Selig will do as he usually does and hire a friend. Hopefully this friend will be able to recruit and coach.

ODU athletics programs are, generally speaking, very good. It seems weird to continually harp on the AD.

I stuck this on another thread. I'd like to see Beamer take over the HC and Burden the OC job- groom Burden to take the HC job once Beamer leaves or is asked to leave.

Nope. He's hired two friends so far; Jones and Finwood. And he's hired a lot more than two coaches.

They had worked together at WKU when she was an assistant there. They already had a "friendship".

"Not to be overlooked, and a key component of McCray's arrival in Norfolk: She worked as an assistant coach at Western Kentucky from 2006-08, when Selig was the Hilltoppers' athletic director."
