Swarming to the Jack
Average home attendance so far is 894. Last in the league by a bunch.

There has been no promotion at all that I have seen but that has only had limited success in the past anyway. It’s a double edged sword, if you invite people to the game and there are 800 people there they have a hard time believing you are a serious D1 program but if the 800 core fans don’t invite people then this is what we have. The last 3 years the product has been sub par. This season I am enjoying watching the team play so maybe things will pick up. I think 3000 average is a realistic number to reach

I agree. On a year-in, year-out basis, that is a number we could be satisfied with. On the nights when we beat our average, we will have a few of them when the arena will have that "full" feel to it, and that is when going to the Jack gets exciting.

RE: Swarming to the Jack
I guess our new AD is wanting to provide accurate numbers. Inflated attendance numbers have been a long tradition, at UALR, since Mike Newell got here. The risers in the Statehouse Convention generously held 2500, but when we filled it we listed attendance at about 4800. That was part of Mike's marketing strategy and it was fine with me. For years, I've realized our numbers were exaggerated most of the time, but it is still painful to see these numbers in the paper the morning after a game.

You make an excellent point. I have extra season tickets, but I have been reluctant to invite friends for just that reason. I'm afraid they'll walk into the arena and immediately think "this is bush-league". I knew attendance would be awful this week. I guess I am waiting until conference season starts, when the attendance will hopefully improve to invite friends. You could count the students on the fingers of one or two hands this week. At least, when school is in session, we should have enough students to make it feel somewhat like a "real" college game. I am rather tired of the "Just win" argument. By the time folks "realize" we are winning, it's usually February, and we have 4 home games left. Then by the start of the next season we are right back where we started. Unfortunately, I don't see it ever getting better- It is actually clearly getting worse, with most millennials having little interest in leaving their big screen TVs, computers, and Ipads to go to a midmajor sporting event. I am in my mid-60's and I feel like a youngster at our games. I wish we had 100 Pappy's in Little Rock who could bring a "posse" of 30 or 40 people to each game. I'm lucky if I can round up 2.

RE: Swarming to the Jack
Everyone inflates numbers. I don’t see any advantage to not inflating. They can keep the real figures to themselves. If everyone else is inflating, which they are, it is nothing but embarrassing and a disadvantage to recruiting to provide those numbers. Go back to counting ghosts!

One other thought. I won't be able to blame the paper much longer for our attendance woes. I got my notice about my neighborhood going to the Ipad instead of an actual paper. Most folks have already stopped getting a daily paper delivered. Obviously, the days of marketing through the newspaper are coming to an end- although I haven't seen ads for free groceries, 2 for 1 tickets, etc. for many years anyway.

Why is marketing through the paper coming to an end? Is the paper not going to sell ads any more? I do not get a paper delivered at home but I saw an ad for Little Rock in last Tuesdays edition I read on my laptop.

RE: Swarming to the Jack
It just doesn't look good to see us last in the conference in attendance, even if it is early in the season.
