RE: Dandridge Cleared to play
Maurice's problem is basically the exact same as all 6'10 mediocre basketball players.
When he plays against weak/soft competition he looks like a superhero. He is so long and tall the little guys can't stop him.
Unfortunately when he plays against any team that isn't weak/soft he just can't get it done.
Last summer (not this most recent), Penny saw Maurice in practice having his way against our weak/soft players (like Davenport) and led Penny to believe Maurice was special, but reality set in over the course of the season.

You are thinking of Lance Thomas not Maurice.

Maurice’s best games last year were against UCF (with Tacko) and Cincinnati. The kid is skilled. His issue is confidence.

You don't rush a player back from injury...If he says he is not ready you don't rush him.
Also Penny may also be letting Malcom decide if he wants to redshirt this year after missing so much time.
My point exactly, it is not rushing him back if he is cleared. Play ball. This ain't football. Cal had a word for those that chose not to play hard, and it may apply for anyone cleared that has any reluctance to contribute.
If a redshirt is necessary, that is the coach's call to make.

Speaking of Maurice, even though Maurice played poorly vs ole miss. I’m glad Penny is keeping him in the lineup for what you brought up, “confidence”.

Don't forget Maurice had those 3 games in a row with 7-9 rebounds. Two different kind of players. Maurice will serve the Tigers well before the season is over. His motor is not like D.J.s but neither is any other Tiger except maybe Alo. I.M. can hit 3's. He did it last year. He's is better from 3 than James, Lance, Dandridge and Precious. He just isn't getting plays designed for him to shoot. We'll see some zones in league play and you may see it happen. With Lester out Tigers will need all the shooters they can get. At 6'10" he could draw some bigs away from the basket if he can get it going. I hope I'm right.
I think you're on to something. I like it.

Our big win over ucf last year came a result of Mike Miller drawing up plays for Maurice to step out and shoot threes. He did, he hit, and Tacko had to come out of the middle to try to guard him.

I suspect we'll see a few minutes of Malcolm today. Not many - three or four.

If hes blocking out and rebounding well I'd say 8-10.
Precious could benefit well next to a strong body center.

Oh yeah if he comes in and really plays well I can see that. I guess I'm expecting more of a transition after not playing for so long. If he brings the fire, as his tweet suggests, he might come in and get you hustle rebounds -- or quite a few fouls LOL

Im excited to see Dandridge but hopefully people dont get too down on him if he isn't an immediate factor. Gotta remember he is 6'8"/6' 9" without super length, coming off a major injury and was never really an impact player in EYBL or dominant in high school even before injury.

Thats a pretty high bar for a freshman ranked in the 100-150 range, coming off a major injury, and playing Center (a position where freshman outside the top 25 or so usually struggle badly)

Yep, me too. Our fans are a little unrealistic when it comes to our recruits. Hoping he come out and dominates, but really just happy that he’s healthy and ready to go.

If you remember former Tiger Anthony Douglas who played with Penny, think of him at 6-9 with athleticism. That's what you're getting with Malcolm Dandridge.
Douglas was an undersized beast inside at 6-5.
