RE: CUSA Changes Football Tiebreaker
Hey that is EXACTLY what those cats wanted. Older members recall the inaugural season. UNT and MTSU tie for the one and only bowl bid. UNT was 5-6 with a loss to FCS Troy State, who was now moving to FBS and their first ever Sun Belt game was a loss at the ULM Indians. MTSU was 8-3 and had beaten Vanderbilt but they had taken a 3 point loss at UNT.

Despite the enormous bad publicity from sending a 5-6 team to a bowl, despite the pressure from the NOLA Bowl, TV, and bowl foe MWC to send winning team MTSU, the Sun Belt had a conference call and the AD's not involved in the tie all agreed you don't change the rules in the middle of the season and North Texas goes to the New Orleans Bowl.

If they wanted consistency they could have stayed.

They have changed it to best computer ranking. Looks like USM can unpack their bags, they are out most likely.

Yeah, but our conference once hid our conference rules behind password protection to try and keep us from going to a bowl. This was in 2013 when we were co-champs with the Cajuns. We only had two bowl tie-ins at that point and the NOLA bowl had already invited the Cajuns. The other bowl was Mobile, and our conference rules stated that all conference champs/co champs had to be placed into contracted bowls, before another team could be placed. King Karl was actively campaigning for WKU to get the bowl invite, even though they had two blobbed feet out the door to CUSA. Some of our fans pointed out that we had to be invited first since we were co-champs, and linked to our rules on the conference website. Wouldn't you know, right after that, the rules were no longer available. We ended up with the invite, but that just helped grow our hatred for Benson even more.

Perfect time for the Sun Belt to open the front door and place a welcome mat down.

I had the same thought at first as I believe there is a consensus among SB fans on the 2 programs we'd like to bring in but do we really want to invite a team that can't beat UNC-C?

As an App fan, I remember fans from both those teams wanted nothing to do with the Mountaineers when realignment was happening. Not sure we should be inclined to throw them a life line now. They've made their bed, let them enjoy it. The SB is good at 10!

If the Sun Belt was able to convince USM and Marshall, those would be the two ideal adds to go to 12, if that's what was decided. Not sure USM and Marshall would jump on it but it makes sense.

As an App fan, I have no inclination to want to associate with a school that cancels games on the threat of rain. That cancellation cost us quite a bit of $$$, in more ways than the obvious.

Marshal would bring the most buzz but we'd have to shed someone to make it happen. If Texas state can't find the opportunity in the SB there's a chance for an add but otherwise it's unlikely. The Florida Us are nuts for not courting all things Sun Belt. Let me more prices. The Florida U's are complete idiots if they're not bugging the hell out of the Sun Belt for entry. The Sun Belt is in a muuch better position long term geographically and competitively.

USM fans are blowing up Twitter, and most are talking about joining the Sun Belt. So, how about that invite?

Theres a little more to it than that, but this is mostly true. It was thought that another bowl would be coming into play, so ULL got invited with 1 week left in the regular season to get a jump start on NOLA bowl tickets. While it's TRUE that karl did actively campaign for WKU to go to Mobile, the third option ended up falling through, and his hands were tied and he had to give it to stAte. His true mistake was putting all his eggs in the 3 bowl basket and inviting ULL to New Orleans Bowl AND lobbying for WKU with a week left in the season.

Please note, I'm not making excuses for him, and I even joined in booing him after the MUTS defacto championship game...stAte fans had PLENTY of other reasons to be dissatisfied with Karl, all 100% valid, but this was a matter of him lobbying for his conference trying to get a jump on bowl ticket sales, and it backfired on him in a major way. I didnt know anything about the rules on the website being password protected.

WOW... Southern Miss just got hosed hard.

How in the world does a conference change their tiebreak rules abruptly, knowing there will be massive controversy?

Pick 2 of USM, Marshall, WKU, and La Tech. Basically, the non-marketz teams in CUSA.
