I know we are wanting a national search but I feel like Silverfield could do a great job. He’s primarily responsible for recruiting in middle TN (TJ Carter, EZE etc) His work with the O-Line has been good as well.

The way I see it, Norvell will most likely be gone after next season. If that’s the case, not the end of the world if he leaves us with a stacked team this year and allows us to recruit a high quality replacement.

JMHO

I would have agreed 4 years ago but I feel like the pressure cooker that is USC football has turned him into a good HC.

No to chip long. He has really done nothing at Notre Dame. We need to have a National search again instead of rehashing assistant coaches that stopped in Memphis to say hi at one point

Done nothing? He has killed it.

That team next year should be even better then this one. Literally almost everyone back on offense and defense. Will lose Big Pat. I wonder if Coxie tests the waters?

Stepping stone job?! We've had ONE coach get hired from another school as head coach in the last three decades, if not longer.

It's a great stepping stone for position coaches and coordinators. It is just starting to become a stepping stone job for head coaches, thankfully!!

Nobody has been able to build anything here and it's never been a focus. This could very well be an FSU type job, where building the program leads to P5 inclusion with a chance of immortality. Something I think is actually in the thought process of Coach Norvell as much as viewing this as a stepping stone, which is 100% what Fuente saw it as.

I would've said at the start of the year that we might lose 2 DBs and maybe Coxie… not sure about any of them. I think Coxie stays one more year to help him develop and raise his draft stock.

100% agree on next years team!!

Well, as I have stated on other threads, the proxie for what is going to happen will be the performance of the team Tomorrow. If there is any truth to the rumors that he is leaving, or thinking about leaving, then the team will know it, and it will show in their performance against USF. I have seen this ish too many time before.

With a big fat bank account

2.6 million/year doesn’t create a fat bank account in Memphis???

At some point, and 2.6 million is one of those points, an extra 300-400k doesn’t move the needle much. First, it’s taxed at 40% so it’s actually more like an extra 200k. That’s what, 12% of gross income? It’s nice but is it worth the risk of being in a coordinator position in 3 years making 300-500k?

I’m sure he’ll get a good raise if we continue on our path.

Arkansas also has a state income tax of 6.9 percent on income over roughly 77k per year. On 3 million per year salary, that's another ~$200k less.

I don't think he's leaving his baby-sitter. They have a close family bond.

Outside of teams with multiple championships, every job in college football is a stepping stone.

I'm guessing a SEC HC gets a bit more than what we can pay.

He’s the 3rd highest paid coach that’s not P5 and he’s paid more than 12 P5 coaches.

Some are but most are in the same range as Norvell. The university has done a fine job of compensating our coach and his staff.

Right. And I'm a bit surprised how he's been able to get raises for his assistants. Plus, huge facilities being built. He's here and sees the construction. If he likes his job now, it's only getting better day by day.
