RE: AD Replacement Thread
Lot of talk here on about firing JK, but not a mention of who to replace him with.

I think really a whole lot more arm-chair QB'ing - and while occasionally misguided, it also shows what the (relatively informed) public perspective is.

I don't need to know what the plan is for my ego, but I think if I knew, so would lots of other people who do need to know... coaches, parents, players, the administration, other ADs/conferences. If they know and I'm the uninformed, so be it.

As to who replaces him, I don't think many of us would be in much of a position to answer that. Personally, I think he does a lot of things right and checks a lot of boxes... but it doesn't seem he's checking some very important ones. Maybe that is simply 'next' in his list... but I want to see it... and right now, I don't. If we were 7-3, I probably wouldn't care as much about the details because I'd be looking at the results.

Just like coaches, we are unlikely to be his final stop... so we need to have our hands wrapped around what is and is not working... so that if he succeeds and is hired away, we don't have to start all over. I'm simply more interested in Rice than I am in anyone holding a position at Rice.

Thus I think he is motivated and working to make things better.

Actually, I think you need to know. Not for your ego--you've never struck me as being the egotistical type--but rather because whatever the plan, all--or nearly all--of the stakeholders ultimately have to buy in for that plan to succeed.

And I don't know how stakeholders can buy into a plan if they don't know what it is.

That was one thing that I really liked about Fred. He had a plan, "If you play sound defense, win the kicking game, and have a quarterback, you can beat anybody." Ken had a plan, "Do something better or do something different." We knew what those plans were, and many of us bought in. I am not sure we've ever had an AD with a comprehensive plan.
