RE: Game Week: @NIU
NIU has a walk-on linebacker, #38, I think. We need to run right at him the entire game. Which is what worries me, NIU offense is really good. NIU pass defense is good. If we look at it from a strength v. weakness prespective our gameplan needs to be run the ball and mix in the pass. But, we know EMU can't run the ball.
All that is to say that I'm a little worried about this game.
If we can take advantage and create mismatches with that dude that shouldn't be playing then I think we win with a manageable run-stopping effort from our Dline.

Another way to attack LBs is with the TE.

Which is another problem for our defense...........they have 2 legit TE's.
Based on what we saw last night, I'd be very surprised if we're able to go on the road and pull the upset. They'll game plan all week to take advantage of our run D. Harbison and Childers are gonna be a problem.
Bowers is their starter, but he may or may not be their QB next week after likely sustaining another concussion. Childers has killed us in the past with his running ability so I'd actually rather see Bowers able to go on Tuesday.

I assume Thursday is the beginning of preparation for NIU.
Hopefully the weather will be more conducive to outdoor activities, like FB.
As of this morning (Wednesday) we are one of 6 MAC teams with a .500 or better record. They are the prime contenders for MAC bowl games.
Correction Steve, those football weeks are whatever the Television Networks want them to be, the conferences merely acquiesce to the paycheck. Saban was complaining hard about Bama having to play noon games in the early season heat. Paul Finebaum, a Saban admirer, told him to stop scheduling cupcakes if he wanted to play in prime time where TV prefers more competitive matchups.
You are 100% correct, those of us demanding all Saturday games and actual event times other than TBD (it should be TBDbyTV) are indeed living in the past. Television network money has become too compelling for the NCAA to ignore, plain and simple.

Dammit Tough you are once again on target. Blueblood MAC program, strong rushing attack and playing in their home stadium will present a mountain. If Creighton can win this one, I will be impressed!

Tough and Jerry, that's what I said earlier they might rush every play, and not pass once against our defense! Our last 5 games, We've allowed over 1250 yards on the ground!

RE: Game Week: @NIU
I was hoping NIU would have lost last night pushing them to 3-6 and not bowl eligible. Would have maybe been a different mindset walking into this game for them.
The game has to come down to take-aways. Both teams are good and I think it will come down to who can force turnovers. Time for our DB's to have a game.
CC said today in his press conference that they all know that 6-6 is eligible but 7-5 gets them there. Need to win this game. Go Eagles!

RE: Game Week: @NIU
I realize it was "just Akron", but I have to wonder if Vann's performance this past Tuesday is going to boost his confidence as the Eagles game-plan for NIU. And if Vann can be looked to for something remotely comparable to the production he had Tuesday night, does that put Keen in the mindset of using the run to set-up the passing game instead of vice-versa?
NIU's rushing defense averages allowing only 16 yards per game fewer than the Eagles...that's a couple of decent runs. They are stronger on the average passing defense than we are by about 33 yards/game, so we're going to have to establish something on the ground if we want to make any headway in the air.
NIU is right behind the Eagles in the basement on kick return yards. We edge them out on kickoff returns, but more than double their average punt return yards. Field position could be an advantage for us.

Seeing as we beat Ohio to help you out and you already beat us, it would be damn fine if you would knock off NIU for your own benefit and that of my Broncos...
Go Eagles!

BTW, we are now approaching a 'quasi' knock out round for MAC teams looking for bowl bids. A loss this week could prevent many teams from 7 wins and a near certainty bowl bid.
It seems most MAC teams are one game above, at, or one game below .500. Only two teams, BG and Akron, can not get to 6 Ws.

BTW, haven't seen any odds yet, but I'd guess NIU will be say a 4 point favorite (essentially home field advantage).

The way MSU has been playing lately, that might be a difficult proposition.
Right now UofM, WMU, CMU are in. Get your two wins, EMU, and you're in.
A 6-6 MSU will get in, as well.

I wonder if MSU would acceptable bid. A lesser bowl, like the Quick Lane Bowl in Detroit, is not exactly considered to be something they want. It's an insult to their pride. Their trash is our treasure.
