It can be postseason and still impact the playoff. Postseason does not mean the same thing as playoff.

I'd say that "playoffs" are a special kind of postseason games that involve more than 2 teams and more than one round and result in a single champion. CCGs and bowl games (aside from those in the CFP) are certainly postseason games, but are one-offs and not really playoffs. Playoffs are akin to a tournament, although I think "tournament" implies playoffs with a large scope.

Well said. You hit the nail on how "steveR" has been mistaken. He has assumed that if it's not a playoff game its not postseason. But that's obviously not true as bowl games are postseason and most aren't playoffs. Don't have to be a playoff to be postseason, and CCGs are postseason.

sorry but you are wrong...... when are the playoffs selected? That, and only that is the cut off for the end of the regular season.....

Your error is being fixated on 'playoffs', which are one kind of postseason game. Just remember:

"If you have to earn your way in to it, it's not a regular season game".

So Army-Navy is a postseason game? What about in all those years before the CFP -- was there no postseason in college football? Bowl games are regular season because they're not playoffs?

Whatever. I am going on what the general media goes on- that it is a regular season game....

well, before that was the BCS and then the Bowl Alliance and Bowl Coalition. And their selections were ALWAYS after the CCG's.

But they weren't playoffs. So no playoffs were selected, and therefore bowl games are regular season. And I assume you see where this is going: what about before the Bowl Coalition?

But they were title games which hinged on the CCG's....

And before- anything before that 2-3 week gap is regular season.

So it's simply based on a 2-3 week gap. Besides the timing, what makes one-off bowls ("title games" or not) fundamentally different than CCGs? Because CCGs are between members of the same conference? There have been a number of bowl games between members of the same conference, so there goes that distinction.

what makes it fundamentally different is that those CCG's determine postseason selections.

what makes it fundamentally different is that those CCG's determine postseason selections.

So your contention is that CCGs are part of a playoff of sorts, but somehow not postseason games even though playoffs are. Yet bowl games, despite most not being involved even in any kind of playoff, are postseason games.

already talked of course with LSU/Alabama.

Penn St/Minnesota gets #9 on the list right now. As of today top 4 Big Ten games have all been on ABC. That'll change some with Penn St/Ohio St and Ohio St/Michigan- but still- ABC does really well with the Big Ten package they have.

Surprised Penn St./Minnesota got up there. Just shows that fans will watch quality (ie high ranked matchups) even without both being name brands.

I'm not. Penn State is a big brand name obviously, and second Minnesota is a flagship with a big following. It's just been dormant because they are lousy. But any B1G game between unbeatens this late in the season is going to draw big viewers.

A game between Alabama and an 8-0 Ole Miss would have done the same.

Ole Miss has had a number of good years since Archie Manning played there. Minnesota's last really good season was when Archie was a freshman at Ole Miss.

The B1G has some heavyweight matchups still to go so their number of entrants will likely increase significantly in the next couple weeks.

really just 3. And they're losing the Notre Dame/Michigan game. So best case 3 top 10 games. Last year they had 4.

Last year SEC had only 3 games. This year they'll wind up with at least 5 and maybe up to 6 or 7.

1 Alabama and no Ohio St.

LSU, UGA and Auburn all have 3.
Texas, Notre Dame, Oklahoma have 2.

Then Alabama, Florida, Oregon, Baylor, Michigan.

Baylor the only non-king, non-prince.

late edit to last week.

Will be really interesting to see how today goes. With the close game, think it's going to be Alabama/Auburn winning big.

Surprising considering it was a blowout. Will be interesting to see how well Auburn-Alabama did.
