We need a few linemen like this and I don't mean the type we might develop and one or two got hurt and the rest of the guys can fill in and get the job done. I think we will have receivers we can develop and probably one good one that will come in a contribute. WE need line protection and run blocking.

That is basically what Weaver, Kounta, Saldiveri, and Lawson have done (Lawson hasn't played every game). Except, they are in the early stage of likely playing a full 4 years here. (Lawson might be replaced with someone).

And the 2 guys that will replace the 2 guys that seem to be hurt every week and Bobby Wilder comes back and says we had 2 hurt guys on the offensive line and so we lost the game?

Which 2 guys have been hurt every week?

Weaver just missed his first game this past week. The RT missed a game or 2 earlier in the year.

I could have swore about every week a couple of offensive linemen were hurt but ok if they were not hurt then that even makes the offensive line look worse in my book. At least if a couple were hurt every week you could blame poor play on that. And you can lift weights and get a little stronger and eat more but you can teach quickness.

A 5-9 receiver decommits. Doesn't bother me.

A 3* receiver with 6 other FBS offers, including ECU, WKU, Kent State, Ga State, Coastal, GaSo. That bothers me a bit. Thats a lot of coaches who saw something special in the young man, and we need receivers.

IMO that is a tough one. He looks like he is a good receiver with serious speed. I hope not too many more decommits happen.

RE: Football Recruiting: 2020
It is one reason for the ODU administration to move quickly from Wilder. The new coach should, IMO, make home visits with every recruit who has committed, sit with the kid and his parents, maybe even bring tape of how he plans to play (if he's been an OC). Maybe this kid made a tough choice of ODU over ???? and can't be swayed. But it is possible NOT to lose every kid who has verballed. And presumably, he'll bring a couple players with him. But they gotta act fast, which is why Selig should be tending to his homework right now.

Doubt that is gonna happen like that. It is a state job and has to be listed before a coaching search can begin.

With the way the job has to listed, and for how long, even promoting from within (day Stiney or Blackwell) it will be nearly impossible for a new hire to be in play before the December signing day. Only way is to not fire the whole staff and they can still visit the recruits.

The first of many plus transfers. If BW doesn't get a 1-yr extension and is kept on as HC expect next years recruiting class to be poor as well. This is what the pits looks like and it will take 4 to 5 years to dig out of it. Plan accordingly.

How do other schools get around these things? It happens. A coach is fired and a new guy is on within a week or Even days.

A short term commitment of 1 year tells potential recruits that the admin has little to no faith in the HC.

With any coaching change there will be transfers and decommits.
Better to make a clean break, get a coach that will inspire potential recruits and cause as many as possible to stay. A single year extension not a good look for new recruits.

Who cares that much if we lose some commitments? It’s not like Bobby has been recruiting at a high level. Losing players from a perpetually lower half CUSA recruiting class doesn’t bother me much.

Most years but this is his best class ever. I haven't looked since he decommitted. But the last time I checked, it was a top 3 score by average recruit score.

The loss of OD brought the average down precisely .0011, which ties us for 5th with LaTech (UAB is alone in 4th by just .0002)

And yes, by average recruit score, I believe this was, and still is, best class since the re-start.

But I don't get the angst. On the field performance and the obvious coaching change both make recruiting tricky. Whoever has been holding this class together this long deserves a raise.
