Listening to Bellarmine in an exhibition game against Louisville. First half they are holding their own.

03-lmfao How’s this for an answer... Yes.

At the Half:
35 Bellarmine
33 Louisville

Honestly, I grew up a diehard Cardinals fan and have been most of my life. But as a Liberty grad, with a child there now, and two more at LU next fall, plus LU’s mission, I have become a Flames fan first and foremost over the last decade. Plus all the garbage that UofL pulled in its athletic department and academic administration really soured me on the school for a time.
I want to see Bellarmine play them competitively, and I wouldn’t be upset if the Knights won. It’s just practice, and UofL is without two of their best big men.

FINAL

65 Bellarmine (#2 Dll)
75 Louisville (#5 Dl)

Great showing for Bellarmine. They kept it oh-so close for 38 minutes.

Was this an exhibition game? I thought it was a regular season game, but ESPN isn't showing it at all as such.

To be fair, UNF played the #6 & JU the#19 teams in the country, & one or both of FGCU & KSU's opponents will likely play in March, so I'll give them all credit for how close they kept things.

RE: 2019-20 Basketball Season
I recorded/watched both the JU and UNF games. UF is loaded and looked every bit their #6 ranking. So losing in Gainesville by 15 is not an ugly loss by UNF. They will be fine most nights, and in particular in the ASUN where they will not be out matched athletically.

JU played better than I thought they would. 6-10 Dave Bell struggled versus X's big veteran frontline and nowhere did I see a scorer like Notae. However 6-7 230 So Post Bryce Workman had a nice game (15/8) in 18 minutes and Sr PG Aamanhe Santos had 15 points (50% FG), 5 assists, 0 turnovers in 31 minutes. A couple of the newcomers showed a glimpse of promise as well.

The Stetson & FGCU scores jumped out to me.

Trinity Baptist is a glorified church league team but 26 points??

I have my doubts about FGCU's Fly. He comes off that FSU Hamilton/Enfield tree so he knows how to get recruits. But Elmer Fudd could recruit to FGCU. I wonder whether he can build a team and coach. It was not that long ago where Fly was Director of watching a lot of Tape in Tallahassee.

I agree, FGCU should be better. St Louis is a good mid major but to get beat that way is embarrassing for a program like FGCU. I think the leash is going to get short if they keep that up.

The leash should get short, that's the only way our conference will get better, we have to start with great coaches. Dont settle and say, "well, as long as we win the conference. " that's not the attitude that will get multiple bids in the tournament.

Am I wrong, but this conference won’t be able to hold onto great coaches?

Maybe, but some will have to come off their wallets to have a chance at keeping them. But on the other hand, honestly, if others are wanting our coaches, that's a good thing.

I agree. We need the conference to collectively invest in the sport. I would pour the money into facilities first, then coaches as the facilities would attract the coaches and recruits and they would last longer than a coach who leaves after a few years.

It will be expensive which is likely a problem for most of the schools but to make money you have to spend money. FGCU should be great most years, while Stetson (I think) has the history of being in the national championship game in the 70's. NJIT and Kennesaw State are in huge metros with everyone else at least in areas that aren't a negative to recruiting. There is so much potential if the investment is made.

NJIT has dumped a decent amount into their new arena.
