Swimming and Diving and Men's soccer will be on madizone rather than the scrimmage.

• Five Year Contract - $650k total ($200k from supplemental sources)
• $5,000 for home games against Power 5 conference teams
• $5,000 for each player that graduates
• $10,000 for winning conference USA tournament
• $45,000 for making NCAA tournament
• $10,000 for winning regular season championship
• $15,000 for APR over 970
• Country Club and Car

The Charlotte athletic budget in $29m, compared to $51m at JMU.

I don’t really care about Charlotte hoops, but the second bullet point is very interesting. We know mid majors struggle to get P5 opponents at home, but Charlotte is throwing a financial incentive at Sanchez to try and leverage relationships for the deals. Smart.
That is a great contract add-on for any mid major coach.

Lefty did very well in this area of scheduling. Big names bring big crowds and the opportunity for big wins.

I'll say reg. season: 13-16 (7-11 CAA), then 1-1 CAAT

Yikes. Not a good showing today. Returners all looked to have regressed. Freshman were pretty good. Oppenheimer looked like he was commanding huddle and drawing up all plays.

Sad to say we look about the same as last year.

not a fan of d3 games or exhibitions for the d1 team...nothing to gain....usually play down to level of opponent.

Don’t think you can take much from an exhibition. I think maybe the one revealing thing is the sequence of the subs to get a feel for the depth chart. In Mettlens post game article they alluded to Flowers being a go for Wednesday and that Christmas started in his place. With Jacobs good game does he get the start on Wednesday or Flowers or Christmas.

I’m guessing the lineup may be

Wilson
Flowers
Banks
Lewis
Parker

With Jacobs Christmas Wooden and Harvey as part of the rotation.

RE: 2019-2020 JMU MBB Season Predictions
I went to both the scrimmage and exhibition game. After attending the scrimmage, I felt like Hart in that I didn't really know what I saw with respect to the Dukes as a team. I left somewhat not bowled over by the freshman class and being impressed by Parker, Banks and Wilson, less so by Lewis. Tonight, I got more of a glimpse of where this team stands now and I came away thinking they're probably a .500 team or so that has potential with the development of the freshman class. If tonight was any indication, the team's interior defense is a big issue, notwithstanding what looked like pretty good defensive field goal percentages. The holdovers in Wilson, Banks and Lewis were all awful tonight and even Parker wasn't very good despite a box score that says otherwise. On the positive end, Jacobs was clearly the best player on the floor, playing the best game I've ever seen him play and it appeared effortless and in stride. The freshman class, meanwhile, showed that it belongs and may very well exceed the junior class in talent. The most consistent of the three that played was Harvey, while both Christmas and Wooden flashed. Christmas threw down a dunk late in the game that reminded me of vintage Dr. J. Wooden is a capable passer, can drive to the hoop and looks to be a facilitator as a forward. His shot needs work.I think we'll see this team improve as the year goes on, but the early returns may not be great, especially with a big matchup with UVA around the corner.

Hard to distinguish in an Exhibition vs a D3 school but was the style of play noticeably different for the Dukes? Were they going more up and down on offense and trying to create turnovers in the open floor on defense? That may be a reason for the "sloppy" play early on.

Yeah I wouldn’t take a whole lot from exhibition games. Duke only beat a division 2 school by 6 points last week and the Blue Devils are one of the top teams in the country. We will have a much better look when they match up against Charlotte.

We played EMU almost exactly one year ago (and it was not an exhibition game) and beat them, 86-58. Last year's team finished 14-19 and 6-12 in the CAA. Our shooting percentages offensively at the three-point line and free throw line were very eerily similar to what we saw last night.

RE: 2019-2020 JMU MBB Season Predictions
Season 1 (pre-CAA, least of any concern in a 1-bid league): I have us pegged at 7-4; 6-0 at home and will win 1 of our 5 road games

Season 2 (CAA, when the real season begins): I think the Dukes will work out the rotation in Nov-Dec and be ready once the real season begins...I like us to surprise some folks and go 12-6 in conference

19-10/12-6 heading into Season 3. Overall, a pretty good season and for those of us with season tickets we will enjoy a very good final home season in the Convo.

Go Dukes!

RE: 2019-2020 JMU MBB Season Predictions
If one takes a closer look at the out of conference schedule, it's perhaps a bit more challenging than people realize, although there are three cupcakes in Shenandoah, New Hampshire and Coppin State.

ACC - VA (road)
A-10 - Mason, Fordham (both on road)
AAC - East Carolina (home)
CUSA - Charlotte (home), ODU (road)
Big South - Radford (road), Charleston Southern (home)

I didn't know much about Charleston Southern, but they won 18 games a year ago and participated in the CIT. Those 8 games, though, are all challenging, with 5 on the road.

Here are the final season picks before tonight’s first game of the season. I may have screwed up somebody’s numbers so let me know if I did. We have a few less prognosticators this year and a couple of incomplete picks as well.
With 4 starters returning it is interesting that multiple posters predicted a worse record this year compared to their predictions last year.

Prize...
For the winner of the regular season total record I will award a 6 pack of your favorite beverage. I will also kick in a $100 gift card.04-rock
The tiebreaker will be the CAA conference record.

*We will have a separate CAA tourney contest in March as the Dukes try to win 3 games in Washington DC for a trip to the big dance.

RE: 2019-2020 JMU MBB Season Predictions
The OOC schedule is complete and JMU finished 6-4 against D-1 competition plus a throw away win vs DIII Shenandoah. Based on the predictions below many of you had the OOC record pegged and the winner will be decided by how the team does in CAA games.

The official NCAA NET ranking has JMU at 207. The good news is that the CAA is down this year and ranks 17/18 as a conference. Only 4 teams have winning records against D-1 competition and JMU is one of them.
The OOC really didn’t matter much because CAA teams weren’t getting an at large bid this year. The interest will ramp up as one of the 10 teams will find its way to the CAA championship in March. Nobody looks a notch above other teams which should provide many close games throughout CAA play. Getting the #1 or #2 seed will be a nice advantage for Whoever earns that in the CAA tourney. Avoiding the Keener round which includes seeds #7, #8, #9, and #10 is a must. Winning 3 games in 3 days is hard enough. No CAA team has ever won 4 in 4 days.
