CBS Sports ranks D-I basketball teams by state....ugh.
Quote:Alabama
1. Auburn
I think the difference between Auburn and Alabama won't be much. In fact, Alabama could wind up rating as one of the most surprising major-conference teams by mid-March if John Petty and Kira Lewis blast through their ceilings. For Auburn, Bruce Pearl has a solid noncon slate and then gets two against Kentucky, two against Tennessee, two against Georgia and plays Florida on the road. I rank the Tigers 29th overall. KenPom's got 'em 22nd, while Torvik is all the way down at 74. Mysterious team, but probably best in the state. South Alabama at No. 3 below is no joke -- the Jaguars are the Sun Belt favorite.
2. Alabama
3. South Alabama
4. Samford
5. UAB
6. Jacksonville State
7. North Alabama
8. Troy
9. Alabama A&M
10. Alabama State

Maybe they have superior coaching and recruiting and player development. UAB under the current HC inspires confidence in no one outside the kool aid Krew. Would be very happy to see that change this year. But show me a reason to believe!

You should never promote a coach to keep a recruiting class or current players. UAB fans lobbied to promote our current coach for that reason. We got what we wanted.

No way Samford should be #4 on the list. Samford finished 6-12 in the SoCon last season with a late season swoon.. Samford looks lost at times and their coach rarely ever makes adjustments on the fly. Samford coach may be good recruiter but I'm not impressed with on court coaching.

Maybe CBS Sports doesn't research anything other than P5 schools and just throws together the rest.
Their opinion and $1.25 will buy you a coke.

And he didn’t even complete this task. Doubt we’re 5th in the state but to prove it we gotta play some instate schools.

true but he is who the fan base as a whole wanted. I wanted a mike Anderson protégé but was told that style no longer works. told by several with much more basketball knowledge than I have.

At this point, what ******* difference does it make who wanted him? This ain't starting his 2nd year, it's his 4th. If we don't at least make the NIT, he should be let go. Period, no excuses accepted.

For some reason the ad gave him extension and there is no money or desire to buy him out

SoCon was also a pretty beastly conference last year though. It's kind of surprising to see how their coach has done considering he was on a lot of lists to move up a couple of years ago.
TBH I'm kind of surprised that Jax State isn't ahead of UAB on this list either.

Yeah, I wanted a guy with NBA connections in Jason Terry. Was called a troll, and told I didn’t know basketball myself lol. Welp looks like the current HC doesn’t know basketball either and the other part of the base less vocal or less harassing part lost interest too. There’s serious hate on here for the “Magic Mike’s and their assistants not named Marsh. Also since we lost to Troy finally we’re 8th on the list.

But will he? Hell I was ready after the secret scrimmage blowout at Bartow couple days ago. Which is most important a new HC or the basketball practice facility?

RE: CBS Sports ranks D-I basketball teams by state....ugh.
As someone who has been involved in the program since the beginning, I am not pleased with where men's basketball has been the last several years, and as much as I want to be optimistic and am excited about the season ahead--I realize there's not a lot of reason to think things are suddenly going to be different. I have hoped that Ehsan would "grow into" the job, but that hasn't happened yet, and there doesn't seem to be a lot of reason to believe that he will. But I still hold out hope.
I was relatively pleased when he was hired, mainly because the other candidates that we interviewed seemed pretty mediocre at best. And I also know that the landscape has changed so much for us, in terms of conference and in terms of our inability to compete financially to get a big-time coach. Unfortunately, we are likely to be relegated to taking chances of up-and-coming coaches or taking has-beens, at least until people start ponying up big cash again. The problem with that scenario is that the interest in our men's basketball program is so low right now that I can't imagine the scenario that would lead to us suddenly turning things around financially.
Unless of course, we start winning. That would be the answer, and that's why I am pulling hard for Rob to turn the ship around.
Go Blazers.

This is true, but I like JT for his NBA experience could’ve been worst then Avery for the school down the road. Wouldn’t mind Avery being here as he recruited well. Hell at this point I’ll take the mt brook hs coach over RE

I was not being sarcastic. My basketball knowledge is limited. Irk think Anderson gets a bad rap from the fan base. The BOT went out of their way To piss him off and Watson’s toady didn’t help
