There was also a Seymour head from the early ‘90s just before the attack eagle took hold that some folks called “the chicken hawk” that might make some cool retro merchandise. I’ll have to find an example of it. Can’t seem to find one on the web.
Loved the 78, 89 lone eagle, and 92 logos.. I used to have a hat, it's long been put out to pasture, that was gold and had Southern Miss in camo on the front and on the back had the 89 lone eagle on the back.. Favorite hat.. Wore it that entire 2003 season.. Lot of beer and sweat on that thing.. I ended up buying a trucker hat with the new logo on it (the infringement logo) and wore it slap out too..
I fear the next one on the chopping block is one I got in 2007 I found while living in North Carolina.. It's Real Tree with the old school USM logo (My wife actually found me a white one with the new eagle head on the back) and fitted.. I wore it the entire 2011 season, especially the game against Houston.. That day I woke up early, cooked chili, and put the hat on and wore it the entire game eating chili, drinking beer, and cheering my ass off...
I have a couple new hats, I just can't find anything I love as much as the old gold one, the trucker, or the camo one I have.. I need to make a special trip to Hatty to the bookmart next time I'm home and see if I can find a good replacement for when times get tough...
Also need a couple new shirts.. I'll say this, living in State College, PA, when older football fans see my Southern Miss stuff they grin and will say, those guys as tough as they used to be? or I enjoy Southern Miss games, they're fun to watch... Of course they always ask how'd I become a fan, and when they hear me talk they get it right away, I'm from there.
