Kansas and Missouri renewing rivalry in basketball
KU and Mizzou getting back together in hoops for a six-game contract beginning next season. Two games in Kansas City, two games in Lawrence, two games in Columbia.

Glad to see this. I know there's a lot of bad blood between them, but I hope they make football an annual thing again.

Wish both Missouri and Nebraska would go back home to the Big 12.

Ah, the marvelous KU athletic department, giving everything us Jayhawk fans don't want. Investigations, tying up our media rights in that espn+ mess, a continuously long trend of terrible football, and now this. They only thing AD Jeff Long has accomplished correctly was hiring Les Miles.

I think the timing is good to restart the rivalry. There is a vocal group of fans that don’t want to have anything to do with MU because they left the conference. A lot of it stems from jealousy because KU was never invited to join another conference. If they were, these fans would have advocated KU do what MU did.

KU has already played home and home series with Colorado and Nebraska who also left the conference. Next year’s game in KC will be the hottest ticket in town.

I do have to agree about the puzzling ESPN+ deal for KU. Perhaps its Tier 3 rights were not as valuable as previously stated. They appear to have given up several million dollars a year to agree to this deal.

ESPN+ doesn't seem like that big a deal here, according to KU. They defintely were not getting several million dollars for "one football game and two men’s basketball exhibition games and four early-season non-conference games."

Quote:The most notable change for KU fans will center around one football game and two men’s basketball exhibition games and four early-season non-conference games. Those events have traditionally not aired on ESPN. They will now be available exclusively on Big 12 Now, not on over-the-air, local or cable television. One thing that will not change: KU will have as many football and men’s basketball games on ESPN and other major TV networks as in the past.

I think Texas burned that bridge a long time ago, and it's never getting rebuilt.

Interesting how easy it is to forget how Colorado was a Big 8/12 member for so long yet no one longs for their return. Mostly due to cultural reasons imo, Boulder has way more in common with Berkeley and Seattle than Lubbock and Stillwater.

There is nothing in this agreement for Kansas. Missouri needs this "rivalry" for their fans, but few Kansas fans care about Missouri at all. They are a nothing program.

I guess this is where I mention the comparison of the two football programs. How about booking Mizzou for, say, six games? Why do you think Missouri needs Kansas? I doubt it.

Missouri is in a conference with no rivals, and few schools close enough for most students to easily road trip to for a basketball game. The Missouri basketball team needs to schedules games that get the attention of their fans. Just look at their average attendance the last decade or so! They obviously need something.

The B12 is a loveless marriage of convenience and not one of its current schools would still be in it if they had all gotten a stand-alone, no strings attached P4 offer the last round.

MU and NU are never going back to that

Good to see. It’s always amusing when you see fans so angry that their school is renewing a longstanding rivalry. It’s clear they care so much about the other school but try to pretend that they’re better than it.

Good. They should play every year in football too.

The last round of realignment crushed many a rivalry.

Well I hope they really did their homework. Whether you agree with the sentiment or not, there are a lot of KU fans who don't like this decision in the least. If you're already facing other potential issues with your program, and squeezing more and more content behind paywalls, it may not be the time to alienate a significant amount of your fanbase.

Not angry, and not a fan of either. Just amused while reading the coverage of it from both sides. Couldn't be more opposite. But I guess Kansas has been playing Washburn, Pitt State, Emporia, and Hays...

But now that I look at the Kansas roster, I see why Kansas did it. They have a freshman from Colombia Mo, and another freshman whose brother plays for Missouri. No doubt, one or both also have siblings coming up the pipeline.

I was pretty sure that Kansas rotated the three State schools to come to Lawrence on a three year cycle. This allowed the kids to play at Allen Field House and the state school to get a nice paycheck. I might be wrong about that, but I remember reading on a Bleacherreport (?) article about that.

That freshman from Columbia was going to Missouri State but couldn't get eligible academically yet goes to KU and its academically eligible to play. 07-coffee3
