In round robin play, we finished 11th, or at the top of the poopy pod. The 3-1 run in poopy play elevated us into what looks like mid-pack in the final standings.

Rice was ahead of Middle Tennessee, UTEP and Charlotte. Looks like the coaches think all three of those “name” basketball schools improved more than the Owls.

Agree the head scratcher for me is the Florida schools. Last year they got around Rice in the final weekend of round robin play, possibly because those games were in Florida. This year, those games are in Houston instead.

I will call it progress if we make Pod 2. Last year, that required at least 6-8 in round robin play. It might all depend on how we stack up against North Texas. I can see Rice 4-4 at home, beating FAU, FIU, North Texas and Charlotte. Can we beat UTEP or ODU at home, or win more than one road game (@USM)?

I am optimistic with regards to FIU. Question mark is how capable will the replacements for Brian Beard be. We will be a much deeper and talented team overall.

We have a much better schedule this year. We will def be taking some non con losses this time.

Bryson Williams is the best player that UTEP has had on the roster since Darick Character. I honestly haven't seen a UTEP team with this much talent since 1986.

Losing Elmore and Burks, you can't complain with that ranking too much, but we have some real players with talent on the team, and we have some size as well, including a freshman 7'er that's actually athletic in Goran. I am excited to see what Dantoni develops this team into by the time tourney time rolls around. I expect a 2nd pod finish, but hoping for more.
